I'm exhausted. The end of my time in America is rapidly approaching. I will be flying out of Omaha on Monday morning and arriving in Manchester, England on Tuesday morning.
A little over two weeks ago, I got the notice that my visa was granted and I could live and work in the UK. I gave my employers a one week notice. Yesterday was my last day of work. First time in 19 years I've been unemployed.
The past two weeks, I've packaged the possessions I wanted to keep and hired an international company to move it. I then hired a local trucker to bring my goodies from where I'm at to Omaha... about 120 miles away.
From there the international movers take over. It goes from Omaha to Charleston, SC. I'm not sure if it will go by boat down the Missouri River or by cargo plane to South Carolina.
The first night I found out about the visa, I got my airplane ticket. I'll never figure out how it works but it was about half the cost getting a round trip ticket instead of one way. So after I arrive, I will cancel the return trip.
I got my stuff packed for the overseas adventure in roughly four days. I got roughly 38 cubic feet. The price for the movers was up to 50 cubic feet and then a new price after that... so I should be good to go with that. I used the post office to mail my computer and will take two laptops on the plane with me. I also will be taking two suitcases, which will cost me some more but it is cheaper then the mail or by freight.
I sold my car to a friend and sold my sports collection to my boss.
The complex where I live has a laundry room that has kind of a second hand place to put stuff for others to take. So, I've been putting some flannel shirts and coats there and they are quickly picked up by someone in need. Last night, I put a box of food there and it also disappeared.
Christmas Day will be my last day in this flat (practicing my English language.) Saturday, will be taking a taxi to the Lincoln airport and rent a car. I'll come back here and pack up everything and head to Omaha for a two day break.
It has been a crazy couple of weeks and the thought of relaxing in Omaha before the long flight sounds so peaceful...
After, I arrive in England, I'll have a couple of busy days finalizing the visa. It needs to be done within ten days of arrival... then I can relax a bit.
By the time that happens, in years past, it would mean my return flight to the States, this year though it will mean some rest and then the excitement of finding a new job...
