car financing please help!

My bipolar fiance bought a truck while on a manic episode. Can't afford this truck and want to return it. I don't know much about buying cars through the dealer but I know well that they screw people over and I see it happening right now. My fiance gave them an expired copy of his DL and the seller says that they need his current DL in order to send the paper work to the bank. I told the seller my fiancee is bipolar and that he's manic and he says he understands because his brother is too. I get a call from the manager and he says they need the down payment and that the bank already financed the truck. Is this possible? he paid no down payment and yet they let him drive away and with the contract? Please give me some advice/guidance. Very much appreciated, thank you!

there was an article on yahoo on car tricks sellers use and one is where they let you take the car home with no financing in place and then suddenly get the financing for you and you need to come sign the papers and give down payment...it is a common scam and you can return the car and leave but it is going to be uncomfortable as they will pressure pressure pressure you to take the car now that you took it home but nothing is in stone at this point...nothing...do not sign or even let him near the dealership...take car back and LEAVE...both you and him will be happy you did...if he gets it in his head to buy cut him off....tell him you will move out and dump him if he signs the papers....then it is his on that and you maybe able to see where he lives inside his own head.

I wish I had a link to the scam article from yahoo it was last weekend on their news site....I read that about the take home the car deal as a scam...

If the DL is not submitted according to the rules, then the seller has commited FRAUD by putting through the sale. Get your paperwork in order and talk to the bank, see about free legal too. Secondly, be careful about your fiance. If this is happening now before marriage, it can only get worse AFTER and, believe me, breaking up at that point is more expensive than a car or truck. But right now if the DL is still incomplete, you do not have a sale.

I have no expertise here, but I know that dealers often try to get you to take the car home as a way of sealing the deal, but it's not really sealed. They wanted me to drive "my new car" home in a snow storm thinking it would make it set firm with me, but I refused and wanted to return later to sign everything.

I'd have to think that if the DL was expired and he has not yet made the down payment, all he has to do is return the truck to the lot and get some kind of paperwork/receipt stating he has returned it and that may be the end of it.

You could hire an attorney for, say an hour, (probably about $100) and get them to simply write a letter backing you up and that may help it end peacefully (not to mention the advice you could get from the attorney about this). Hope it works out for you.
