hi I am 54 and on total disability. It took 3 years and a lawyer to get it but I finally did. Go ahead and apply, I know people who apply and get it right away, a far a your taxes you have to behind for 3 years and then they can put your property up for auction , but not for 3 years. take care m

I know if we don't pay our taxes on time they add penalties. You should call the office and ask them what goes on when your taxes are late. Also find out if they can set up a payment plan. Some taxes in my area won't take partial payment but will take payment if you set up a plan at a certain time of the year. I am sure it matters where you live for how your late taxes will work in regarding your home. But here a woman lost her home for being 1 dollar short. That is why they got this full payment system or no payment at all set up. Now around here you have to be behind for 1 year before any serious problem occurs. They will after that list your property up for sale for back taxes. IF However! Someone does buy your house for back taxes, the law in PA allows the homeowner to pay those taxes anyway and regain ownership of the home. I would guess a lawyer would be helpful if that occurs. But I would call the office and ask tell them you tax payment will be late this year, and ask what to expect?

I agree with the other replies here. The first thing to do is call your local tax office and explain your situation to them. With the way things are now a days they probably have some sort of program in place. If not check with the United Way. They would be the ones that may know of some local organization that might be able to help you out.
Second if you think that you are not going to be able to get back to work because of your physical troubles, then start the SS disability process right away. The sooner you apply the sooner you can get it. You will be turned down probably at least twice though. You can do the first two apps your self then you will need to get a lawyer. They will take the case and wait for their money until you get approved though. If not then find another lawyer.

When applying for Social Security Disability , It will depend on how much medical evidence you have for proving your case,and If you have a good doctor that will support your claim, It helps, Make sure he is documenting all your medical issues, If so this process could go quick,My mothers was approved within months, Now my case took years, Fibro is hard to find a good doctor that will listen and understand it, Keep a Pain journal for the Pain You are having, simply writed down where and how your hurting and how long it last, and what you did to make it stop.................
like for example, Pain -level 7 , lower back, soaked in hot tub, and don't forget to add How the remedy helped, It helped but Pain is still there, If you suffer with depression , be sure and list this, If you have trouble using your hands, or standing,sitting, now take this to your doctor and ask him to put it in your file, this way he has to chart on it,
Doctors like to keep charts very simple, I was blowed away by how little was really being recorded in my records, nothing about Pain that is for sure, now If you don't have much for medical records it can take forever, and I think it is best to talk to a lawyer they can speed this process up.
The main thing is getting it filed now. If you do prove your case they will pay you from the date you filed,
and I want to mention that once you have filed Your SSD application, You can apply for assistance for medical card, Now as far as the taxes, like everyone else said, Call them and they will work with you, In our state, You have to have 3 years of delinquent taxes before they will auction, You can also apply your homestead tax to them, best of luck,
