The first time was in the 80s to early 90s.... roughly twelve years... looking back at it, it wasn't not a lot of money looking at how far down I went but at the time I wasn't making a lot of money. Anyway, it was about 20,000. The way I got out of it was with getting a divorce and through that we sold the house and got out of debt.
I remained debt free for roughly two years...
Then got back into debt with extensive dental work and it seemed to steam roll from there... I started a new relationship and used a ton of CC's to support my dating habits. We got married and then she got ill. And we really got into debt. By the time it was over we were over $60,000 in the hole. This debt was also roughly 12 years in the making and took me three years to get out of.
Right now, I'm on my second year of being debt free...
