I know from my upbringing and how my Gran would never allow either me or my Brother to 'make mistakes' that the children of successful families were wrapped up in cotton wool. What Jamie Oliver dubbed 'Wet behind the ears' is really a constellation of spiritual maladies exacerbated by overprotective upbringings.
We are currently living in a society which is placing lots of pressure on us to do things IT'S WAY, i.e. Work Hard and Play Hard, that introverts like myself are being phased out of the workforce. In the UK, as you may well know, the 'dream job' is always Sales/Public Relations which has culminated in today's Crash and Burn 'Reality TV' phenominum.
Apologies if I'm getting on my high horse, but I believe we are currently reaping what was sown over the past 100 Years.
It's hard for a parent to let their children make mistakes. That's one of the main reasons when a child turns 18, they move out and learn how to live. I wanted so much to be away from the grips of my home, I moved over 2,000 miles away.
No one can prevent me from making a mistake. I chose to give someone the power to make sure I don't make a mistake. Those are the folks who never move out of their home. They have no idea how to live.
To me, wet behind the ears, means those people who can't do their laundry. Who can't change a flat tire or change the oil in their car. To me, wet behind the ears means a person unable or unwilling (the victim) to grow up. And that is fine because that is their choice.
Being in debt, for me meant a couple of things. That material possessions gave me self-worth and normal maintenance repairs were below me.
There is nothing wrong with working hard and playing hard. I work all year for the satisfaction to go on a holiday to another country. It gives me reason to get up every morning and a goal to work for every day.
It has nothing to do with being an introvert or an extrovert. I believe that an introvert is nothing more then a closet extrovert. I'm an introvert. Most nights, I'm home alone watching TV and getting ready for a new day.
Yet, I do like attention. I like when people read my books or ask me to speak at a function of theirs. I couldn't vocally voice my accomplishments, so I wrote about them. Singers, writers, and many other artists are introverts. And the fact is, so are many politicians.
Like everything else, we can use anything to further our course as to why we are a victim. I'm an alcoholic. I'm an incest survivor. I'm a child of an alcoholic. I'm an introvert. I can come up with a bunch of excuses why society is against me. It's my choice if I want to be a victim or if I want to be a member of society.
I do know from my past, from being penniless and homeless, no matter how much I tried to sell "poor me," it never worked...
Folks speak of gratitude but yet never seem to give that full thanks to their Higher Power.
I'm not thankful for a computer, or a car, or even a job. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to have a computer, a car, and a job. Because I know what its like sleeping under bridges and wondering where my next meal would come from...
It's a very spiritual experience...
