For me, drawing a pint of blood is nothing compared to what I loose each month.
And mild exercise is okay on this body. I'm sure they are trying to control a specific outcome by having everyone do it.
Honestly I'm impressed that a immunologist is running this study.
If the bicycle exercise is too much, you can tell them and I am sure they would stop it. As to the blood tests, I am sure the amount of blood they actually take will not hurt you. The body is constantly regenerating.
Good luck with your decision.
I would Do Anything to help others in our situation, and this sounds like it would benifit.
I'm sorry It might send you into a flare but maybe the research and subsequent analysis will give doctors researchers and just plain folk a better understanding of our life.
The risk of a flare is pretty scary, I agree.
If their requirements start pushing you to flare, can you drop out of the study? And honestly, while the blood draws don't worry me (that really ain't much over two months), the bicycle thing would. do they INTEND to trigger a flare to see if it changes the bloodwork?
Ask a few more questions of them and see what they say, maybe?
If you want to participate, maybe you could ask the researcher some questions about the exercise component or any other part that might be uncomfortable for you. The researcher should be very glad to talk to you about it.
Good luck with whatever you decide. I am part the the massive Nurses Health research out of Harvard and am proud of it.
But, yes, Leo. The point is that you bike to your limit and they take bits of blood (through an IV) every few minutes before and after in order to measure physiological reactions. And, the whole point of managing fibro is that we cannot take our bodies to the limit.without inducing a flare. I mean, the only way I have managed to exercise as much as I do is by increasing at a snail's pace and always staying at a comfortable pace.
I asked for written info. and a lady I know from a local support group is doing it. I think I will wait to see what her experience is like.
Thanks for the responses.
