Still not sleeping.
Mom's cleaners are quitting. She forgets they speak English and her cussing is AWFUL. I flinch, so imagine you hear that and you're just there to clean. It's like walking into a dragon mouth when the dragon's ready to light a fire. *sigh*
My vet's office got hacked. Good news, they iknow it. Bad news, a lotta people's phones got infected. Thankfully, I don't use mine enough. Whew.
Thirteen skinks, btw. And a wasp. Dahlia was furious that the wasp fought back. She came in like she'd done ten rounds with a coyote. (And won, but still!)
My in-laws ditched everything of meaning to me or Hubby about his dad. "Oh, we didn't know." Bullsh*t. But... whatever. they didn't even tell his old co-workers or anything. I did. Now they can remember him whether Bitchy Likes it or NOT!

So last night I learned some fun stuff from a book (of course).
For example, via intermediaries stretching from Venice to Beijing, people in the Middle Ages were trading in silks, pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and things nobody uses anymore b/c we did the science, but some of these would incoude pigment ores used in the Renaissance ---- the famous colors of Michelangelo and Da Vinci! "How'd they get that blue?" Well, it came from now-Afghanistan...
Did you know that bubonic plague can travel on fleas that afflict camels, not just rodents or cats and dogs? Yep. However, reports that anthrax was the real plague are erroneous. Cattle herds tend to die when nobody takes care of them, and the 1300s weren't exactly a great time before bubonic plague ---- the century started with years of famine!
So camels may be part of how plague traveled to Europe. Whee! Camels live, people don't. Please, remember that tiny things biting you give you way more diseases than a bat. Insects give plague, Lyme, West Nile, Zika, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and the biggest tropifcal killer: Malaria.
Which is why I kinda like bats, and skinks. Eat bugs! Yay!

And on that note, I need to beg the cleaners to .... accept more money to keep helping Mom. She's awful, I know, but I cannot do what they do. Three of them need an afternoon. One of me needs three afternoons!
An on that note, off to do the proper reaching out to people that my FIL knew. The MIL wanted privacy. Well, I want respect for the deceased no matter how much it sucks for me. Gonna be another wonderful fun day baking in the sauna we call September!
HUGS and PURRRRRRRZ to all!

Chocolate or Vanilla?*You can’t say both (or neither), or add stipulations, or make substitutions- just commit and pick one of the two choices!

... broken a bone.

I'm exhausted, whenever Miki gets in her bed or moves, her cone makes noise and I wake up. And when I got up, I noticed that Miki figured out if she rotates her donut cone, she can stick her nose through it and lick the end of her incision -_- there's nowhere that I'd be able to stop between 4 and 7 am to get a plastic cone, so I ordered one on Amazon that will be here this evening, plus a recovery suit. And I put a tank top on her with her collar through the straps. It's also through the cone, so hopefully it'll keep her from rotating it. Her incision is looking less red and swollen and the discharge is improving, but obviously it'll heal much faster if she leaves it TF alone. I don't blame her, and I hate this too, but I have to. I'm hoping my parents can handle all this today, because it all has to come off when she goes for a walk, then get put back on after. Ideally I wouldn't leave such complex instructions, especially for my dad, but I don't have a choice. I brought her to work for the afternoon yesterday since we had no appointments, and she's decided she does not want to be in a room by herself, and she will constantly and loudly let us know. I ended up out back with my iPad and she laid down next to my chair and stayed quiet. But obviously I can't bring her with me if she's gonna be like that -_-. I did manage to schedule an ultrasound for her on Tuesday morning, so hopefully I'll get good news there. Now I just need to get through the rest of the day with Karen, ugh..
It is hotter than Hades here. The heat indice was 105 yesterday and I got really sick from it. Spent the afternoon in bed trying not to toss my cookies.
My brother actually got an appointment with a neurologist for today. He can't drive for 6 months (because he can't remember what happened - hit the pavement at abt 20mph). I wouldn't remember anything either after shattering my hip, hitting my head and treated to extensive road rash. It's called shock. He's had a head scan which was perfect. Heart checks out fine. Neuro has to sign off on him driving. Meanwhile we wait for the traffic investigator to come back with information.
New power steering pump is installed. Practice makes perfect - only took 2 hours since the old (defective) one had just been put on the car. Now I'm waiting on Ebay to send me a mailing label.
Leo - Your Mom's cleaners are there to clean not listen to whatever comes out of her mouth. Earplugs or headphones. Your in-laws are horrible people. You tell the world about FIL . People should know. He was well respected.
Miki- I had a cat that would not leave her spay stitches alone no matter what I did. She had a very tiny head which made keeping a cone on her impossible. I ended up using a dinner sized paper plate. I know firsthand how frustrating that is for you. I hope that your folks can follow your instructions. And, that Karen gets a sudden onset laryngitis. Hang in there.
Now, I get to fill out a form for my car insurance that says I don't need medical coverage on my car insurance due to having Medicare etc. MI has extremely high car insurance rates. That keeps my premium to a tolerable level. It's so stupid. I have to provide the exact same information every six months. Medicare doesn't go away unless you die. SMH
Waves - group hug! We all need one.
I will bake a cake. Who wants what?!
