well they say that cymbata is ment to fight pain by adressing the depression... or someting like that. I took it for a few years I cant say I saw a differance in my fibro it was part of my Bipolar coctail so when im not prego Ill probally go back on cause I was sooo stable. I have seen people on here that have had bad side affects and or really bad withdrawl from it. I didnt notice any side affects from it and stopped it cold turkey with no noted affects so like most drugs it works different for all of us...

As for other meds I cant say any of them did any major differance for my fibro...

Actually amitriptaline... when I was first dxed I took this for about 3 years. I think I noticed less flares although my daily pain was there just not the extreams. Problem I had with this drug is that I got pernicious animia which is a very very rare side affect of the med. So rare it went un dxed as the cause for 2 full years. It took a pharmacist doing research for me to figure out it was a side affect go figure... lol...

I don't take antidepressants, they turn me into a zombie. It seems that's all doctors want to prescribe. I take inositol which is supposed to help with depression.

I take 10 MG of Buspar each morning and that works very well for me. That's the minimal dosage but with this contrary body of mine, most of the time, less is more. I have taken all of the others and they made me sleepy and dysfunctional. I don't like not being in control and this is the only anti depressant that doesn't send me into oblivion.

The nice thing about Buspar is the dosage can be adjusted up. My GYN put me on this after I told him about an episode with my estranged spouse. I guess that says a lot for my PC, doesn't it?

I will Not take an AD for my Fibromyalgia..if ever I suffer from MDD I will consider it as a last option...IF I cannot get the Depression under control myself anymore.

I take prozac. it works for me and it is vheep. I try to get as many of medications in generic as possible!

I have been on several antidepressants. The latest in Celexa and I'm doing very well on it. It's the only one that I have not had any suicidal feelings with and it doesn't make me feel like a zombie.

I've been on several over the years and the only one that has helped with my depression is Prozac. I was dx'd with FMS 1 1/2 years ago and have been on Prozac (this time) for 9 months. It's supposed to help with FMS pain, but I can't say I've noticed a difference. I have a lot of stress in my life right now, so doubt that anything would really help with the pain.

I take Celexa....helps with the fibro, and also with some of menopause symptoms so I can avoid hormone therapy....works well for me.

I've had alot of bad experiences with these types of meds so I stay away from them. I was hoping to try savella but my pain specialist wanted me to wait till he had more info because of other health problems. I think that may have been a blessing in disguise. With the info about XMRV I have two doctors looking into this and I see my pain specialist at the end of the month. I'm hoping to try some antiviral meds now.

I've done so many drugs in the last ten years I just don't know how to say no to drugs. (They've all been legal and prescribed by doctors) I did say no to lyrica.

I take wellbutrin 300 mil and when that wasen't enough my Dr gave Cimbalta(that's the one I think you thought of) Anway I really did help with my depression alot...however it didn't make much difference with the fibro.

I take celexa 40mg, was on it for a while before diagnosedf & "real" fibro meds were rx'ed so for me it didn't do much for the fibro, but is tolerable as for side effects. Only advice I have is if to look at the families of AD's, they work in different ways, like the tricyclics, SSRI's and another I can't remember! If one type doesn't help you might try a different family/way it works to see if that helps. Good luck!

Are you depressed or is your doctor telling you that you need to be on anti-depressant? That is what they usually do.

If you are not depressed then I wouldn't recommend them. The side effects can cause worse trouble for you.

I feel so much better mentally now that I'm off them.

Sad to say, I have had a lot of experience with anti-depressants. Basically, you just have to keep trying different ones, until you find the one that works for you. It really seems to be a genetic thing. When I was younger, and needed them more, I tried every tricyclic out there (related and including amitriptilline (sp?). None of them worked. My sister had an episode of depression and her doctor put her on Zoloft, since my mother was on it. A friend of mine had died and I realized an antidepressant might be helpful. Since my sister had been advised to take Zoloft (which didn't exist when I was really going through a bad depression) I asked for Zoloft. That was the one that helped! Unfortunately, there is no other way to tell. If one doesn't work, or has nasty side affects, try another. By the way the drugs in this family are not supposed to be helpful with pain. Tricyclics and the Cymbalta family drugs are.
