When I was first diagnosed (and I got to the rheumatologist early because I was an RN at that time) I cried at the doc's office. She filled out disability papers so I could get into vocational rehab.
So many losses, so little understanding. My husband, at the time, divorced me. Was it because I couldn't work any more? Or I was getting older? Who knows. Getting rejected plunged me into a depression for several years, but I had one friend who stuck with me, the sobbing me, and that relationship helped a lot.
I also sought out support groups and found other people with fibro to form friendships with.
It's a long painful journey psychologically, or it was for me. Gradually you accept that this is your life and even if no one truly understands, you know what it is, and you let only the most sympathetic people know what's going on with you. Kids won't want their mother to be sick; don't expect understanding until they are adults, if then.
Keep looking for what gives you the most pleasure in life, what feeds your mind, and your spirit. Do what you can, but don't overdo. Stick up for yourself gently. Always try to be the kindest you can be to yourself.
