Good morning. Wow, what a freaky night. We kept waking, that sort of half-waking where you mumble, "Whatta?" and go back to sleep before you finish asking, "What was that?"
Well, we woke up to disover "that" was a neighbor chopping down a tree with an axe in the middle of the night. Wait, what?! Not criticizing his courtesy by avoiding chainsaw use at 3 AM, but... tree-chopping by starlight? Apparently, the tree allowed squirrels access to his attic. He had one too many nights of Skippy and Slappy scrambling around overhead, and that was that for the tree. Lovely little dogwood no more.
What he did not yet realize is that squirrels use drainpipes. Also, the cure might be to keep his attic sealed against intruders, rather than killing a tree. But, hey, to each his own axe. If he'd rather chop down a tree at 3 AM than set a couple humane traps up in his attic after fixing that gap in the eaves.... Not my house, not my squirrels.
There's a reason that guy is single. Just sayin'.

I note for those who aren't acquainted with the acoustics of my neighborhood: We lvie on the slope of a hollow, and the echoes around here are *insane*. We have a couple of "dead" zones where nothing is heard or heard from, and the rest? Like a high school auditorium, really. One person drops a pen, everyone jumps. Thus, I don't have to live very near someone to have the pleasure of their audio company. Got real interesting when we had neighbors who never shut the bedroom window during their lovemaking. Yikes!

Oklahoma today became the 46th state in the USA, back in 1907.
Etymology of the word is allegedly a Choctaw (Native AMerican) word for "red people". The Choctaw, btw, were native to the US Southeast, not the southern Great Plains, which is where Oklahoma is located. I'll further note that Chickasaw people get cranky if you decide they're Choctaw. They're not. The languages are close, but it's like Russian and Polish. Same family, sound a lot alike, but no, not identical. (Or, if you prefer, German and Dutch. Whatever.)
Thanks to migrations force dby whites, Oklahoma is home to trivbes that originally had no place whatsoever in that region, including the Cherokee. The western Cherokee did the Trail of Tears. The eastern nation, which is found in part of the original Cherokee nation lands, got to stay b/c they compromised with whites. As a result, the two dialects of Cherokee are extremely different, to the point where some argue that they're no longer both Cherokee. I've picked up a few words of the eastern dialect, which is considered th eonly living southern Iroquoian dialect that resembles the original. Cherokee is also one of the "healthiest" of the Native tongues, with its own alphabet, etc., and extensive efforts to preserve it. The eastern tribe teaches it in school, for example, to help preserve it. SOmetimes, that whole "compromise" thing can be verrrrry sneaky subversive good for someone. In part, thank George Guess/Gist/Guest, a silversmith of the southern Appalachians. He created the Cherokee syllabary and by so doing, kept the tribe more literate than the average white settlers of the region and time (c. 1820). Sequoyah, as he's also known, lived all over the US Southeast, includnig modern Alabama, the old Arkansas Territory, and even traveled to what is now Oklahoma (see! connected!) in an effort to find an dunite all the scattered Cherokee peoples. He settled in Oklahoma for a time, and died in 1843 in Mexico, seeking Cherokee who had gone there after the tribe's removal from the ancestral territories in the east. (The removal was around 1802, so Sequoyah would've been about 30 when it happened, and opposed the assimilation compromise of the eastern nation, but also opposed tribal disunity, so... Rock, hard place.)
BTW, Oklahoma back then was next ot what was Arkansaw Territory, and was where the whites relocated Seminoles, Creek, Choctaw, Cherokee and Chickasaw from the southern Appalachians, Florida and what is more or less today's state of Mississippi. In fact, Oklahoma was part of the then-Arkansaw Territory, but post-relocation, was "Indian Territory". And no, the whites did not consult the trivbes already frequenting the region, like the Apache, Kiowa, Osage, and similar.
In 1915 on this date, btw, Coca-Cola had its curvy bottle patented. THe logic given? "Easier to hold". The real reason? The shape strongly suggested/resembled a woman's curves in the corseted style of the era. Tell me this doesn't resemble the original curved cola bottle... http://image.glamourdaze.com/2013/09/1910-Corset-made-by-Jen-Thompson-Festive-Attire.jpg

OK, I am off to do two loads of laundry, see the bone-manipulating doc who works on all that scarred up stuff in my pelvis/back (five years later, still going... but ehy, I walk, so that's a good thing)...
May you have a soft, blessed day!

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Chopping trees down by moonlight? That doesn't even sound very safe. I guess in some ways I do understand the frustration though...we are starting to see some mice running around. We do have two cats and a Sparty but they all have some issues while trying to hunt. Tweak is not a young 15 years old and has went into retirement. He was a very good mouser in his time though. Elsa catches them but doesn't like killing them. If she plays with them long enough they do tend to pass away though...most likely from heart attacks or frustration with the d@#m cat. Sparty is just to energetic. He has the heart of a hunter but is way to nervous and high energy to stick with the hunt. So that leaves me...and good luck with that!
Heading in to get my shots in an hour or so. We'll see if they do any good. I also emailed my PCP and am trying to get checked for sciatica. I have had some lower back problems in the past that could be causing it in both legs. They used a RFA treatment that did seem to help some. Gotta wonder how much of this is just FFF gone wild? :-)
Hoping everyone has a good day today,
Kel
Sorry you did not sleep well, Leo. Tree chopping at 3am is way weird. That would have freaked me out a bit. Interesting stuff on Native Americans. I have a niece who is part Sioux, and my son-in-law is part Ojibwa. A couple of years ago I read a book on the Comanche. They were a tough bunch. It is good to not forget history. I hope your bone doc does you some good today.
Kel, I could use a good mouser right now. I'm going to go and buy that sonic, or whatever it's called, thing. I hope your shots help. And that they get things figured out about the sciatica.
I am out of sorts this morning. I didn't sleep well, having had nightmares again. I just kept waking up. I finally called it a night at 4am. But I'm super tired right now.
They hit water last night! The bam, bam is done. They will finish up with whatever is left to do out there today, and will hook us up to the new well on Saturday. I will be so glad when it's done. Yesterday was nerve wracking.
I need to get some things done in the house today, and I have no ambition whatsoever to do so. Hubby comes home tonight, and leaves for a week, early tomorrow morning. I'm already feeling lonely.
More later.....
Kel, I really hope the shots help and that the added back and leg pain ease up. I know sciatica can last a long time for some, so I hope your doctor can see you and help determine a solution.
Aw ida, I'm sorry he is coming home just to pack and leave again. That sure sounds lonely, I at least have my little girls that never stop to keep me going. haha. I hope you enjoy what little time you do have together. I'm glad the banging is done.
I'm experiencing more pain than usual in my feet, and my ankles have a nerve that keep firing on both sides. It really hurts and I feel overwhelmed and exhausted. I will read a few scriptures to get me through the day, and listen to my pastors sermon.
I hope everyone gets their pain under control.
Ida, yay, no more rib-shuddering thumps!
Twin, sympathy on the nerve. I've got random ankle wasp-stings for some reason, but not that bad... Purrs to you.
Leo, chopping down a tree at 3 am sounds a bit crazy. And your neighbor who left the curtains open while they ahem...? You sure have some interesting neighbors, I can tell you that much! Good luck with the bone manipulating doc. I hope it goes well today!
Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to everyone yesterday. Every time I clicked back on this thread, something came up: either mom asking me where something goes, the laundry machine beeping, had to run back out the door for another errand. You get the idea.
I had another busy, tiring day yesterday. After going to the DMV and getting our ID's done, we came home for a short lunch and headed downtown for some errands. Took mom to Aloha Care office where she filled out a bunch of paperwork. Then off to walmart. We only had 4 items on the list, but next thing I know mom was shopping for clothing and she couldn't find anything that fit properly so she was trying on half the dept store. My pain climbed up and up and finally I had to say STOP! Enough is enough. Grab the best of your choices, we have to leave now if I wanted to be able to physically make it out of the store.
I started coming down with a headache on the way home because my mom either didn't hear or understand something I said so I was constantly repeating myself all day. Upon arriving she put the news on which was OK but the commercials were blaring. Headache full force. I went and hid in the bedroom. If we go anywhere today, I'm going to make sure she wears her hearing aid.
So far the only things on the schedule today are the pool and acupuncture. I'm too tired to do anything and hopefully nothing else comes up.
Bobbii and Twin, I'll say a prayer for you today for comfort, strength, and renewal. Also that your pain calms down.
Fantod, I hope the treatment kept the critters away.
BBmom, I hope the vertigo is gone today. That can be nauseating and a bit scary.
Kel, it's funny how cats retire like that, isn't it? Silver's 13 a little old but not that old. He was once a great hunter too. But now he seems to think his only job is to blend with the furniture. When I injured my back in '04 I had terrible sciatica. I really hope that isn't what you have. I hope the shots help you.
Ida, I'm sorry you had nightmares. I hope you have sweet dreams tonight. Yaaayy, they hit water! So glad that's over with!
Hope everyone has a good hump day!
Kel, we had an influx of mice this year. I would say more this year than in the last 16 combined. The crafty little things even eat the peanut butter off from the trap and it doesn’t spring. Yet, it springs on me every time I try to set it down! Generally If I catch one, I throw the trap and all away. I HATE MICE! I will kill a spider and even a garden snake (if needed), but I cannot stand seeing or being near a mouse. I hope your shots work wonders for you.
I am so glad they hit water so quickly. Hearing the bam, bam would drive me crazy. I understand the no ambition thing. I haven’t much myself. If you find it, send it my way, please. Try to make plans to see your friends while hubby is gone. That might help a bit.
Angela, thanks for checking in. Take it one day at a time. Sending hugs back to you.
Hi Twin. Sorry you are having more pain today. Me too. I cannot imagine the nerve pain in your ankles. Ouch. I am glad that scripture helps you though.
I had a 3 ½ hour meeting. I am in agony. I got up about every hour to move around. I am on the 3rd day of nausea and dizziness with a little vomiting. My heart feels wonky (PVC’s or PAC’s, not sure which at this point because they don’t feel like the PVC’s I used to get). My body feels fluish and hurts everywhere. I would love to go home, but have a ton of work to do. Tomorrow is another day!
Blue, sorry your day was so busy yesterday. It sounds exhausting. Why are commercials so much louder than the regular programming? It is very annoying. I hope swimming and acupuncture are all that remain on your schedule today. You have been going nonstop and need a break!
I hope everyone is finding something good happening today.
Kel – I hope the pain shots help and I am sending prayers for healing.
Idajoy – I am so glad they re done with the digging. I hate the sound of any kind of construction. I just feel on edge all day listening to it. I am sorry you didn’t sleep well.
AngelaJo – sending you hugs and prayers for healing.
Twinmom – I am sorry you are hurting so much today. I have uplifting sermons and podcasts I listen to when I am not feeling great. It helps to take me out of my own thoughts for awhile.
Yesterday I did too much and today I am going to try to take it easier. I have an adaptive yoga class at the VA today, which I am looking forward to. I have been trying to get some easy exercise program going for such a long time, but anytime I have attempted anything, i.e. walking, swimming, small weights, my body is very unhappy with me, and I spend the next two days in a flare. But this adaptive yoga class is mostly stretching, and compared to what I used to be able to do, it isn’t a lot of exercise, but I am so happy to be able to manage even that.
Wishing us all a great day, with as little pain and stress as possible.
Thanks for the check in, Leo. I'm feeling a stomach bug of some sort so I'm resting. Went to bible study and felt sick there. Came home and it's worse. Ugh. Yes, hands, feet, back and ribs are still terrible. I ask humbly for your prayers and healing thoughts. I feel very sick.
Blue, I hate shopping with other people for that reason. I like to get in and out, and I don't have the patience to wait when my pain is intensifying. I'm sorry you had such a long and hard day yesterday. I hope today goes much better and you get a lot of you time to relax.
bbmom, that is a very long meeting. I'm sorry you deal with so many meetings. I'm worried about you! If things get worse I hope you get in, especially b/c of the heart thing going on. Sending you chicken soup and healing!
Suzanne, The sermons and scriptures are the only thing that keep my anxiety down with all of this pain. I'm so glad to see it helps someone else. I hope you enjoy yoga and can handle it. Yoga still makes me hurt. :-(
Bball, big purring support!
To everyone else... Off to the bone-cruncher. I jest. He actually shifts my scarred soft tissues to put my bones back. Even a few millimeterse is gonna hurt, but it does mean I will not feel like I'm wrapped in a cardobard box when I move!
Blue, I vote you have T-giving catered to you while you lie in bed as a reward.
Bobbi, oh, rest up and stay hydrated, okay?
Basketballmom – I am sorry you are in so much pain and feeling so ill. I hate it when I get heart palpitations. For me they are definitely tied to stress. Sending you healing prayers.
Bobbii – I am sorry to hear you feel so sick and in pain. Sending healing prayers.
