Has anyone been to the rheumatology department at U of M for treatment of fibromyalgia? If you have ,would you please share your experience? I have been referred there by my rheumatologist. Not sure if that is the right move. The referral got started because I have not been getting pain relief and my rheumatologist is stingy with pain meds and seems more concerned about possibility of addiction. I do not have a history of drug or alcohol addiction. The referral was ordered in December 2010. My doctor says narcotics are not helpful for fibro and I disagree. I also have secondary issues from the fibro that cause pain, chronic costochondritis and chronic hip bursitis. I started pool therapy and ultrasound to the back last week and it has raised my pain levels through the roof and flared up my costo and bursitis.The therapist is taking things very slow. I feel sick in the head when I think this so I am going to risk it and tell all of you why do I have to suffer so much pain with fibro but if I was terminal or fighting cancer my pain would be a priority. Because I am alive and not terminal just deal with it. How is that humane? My dog would get better pain treatment. If I do go to U of M I am not sure how I would get there once let alone repeated visits. My husband just started a job that does not have benefits.

I am from Mi,but have never been treated at the U of M facility.I do hear that they have a good reputation.My neurologist is affiliated with U of M,but he travels here to the town I live in.He comes to the Spinal pain clinic where I receive treatment.
My Neuro has been featured on the show "Mystery Diagnosis".He was the hero Dr.I am not sure where you are in Mi,but we do have some great doctors in many areas of the state.Good luck,I hope you find some relief...........................Cheryl

It seems that I've read a number of articles relating to research there, but the fog keeps me from recalling which Drs. specifically.
