I am currently taking ultram or tramadol. I have to say that it has worked very well for me and the good thing about it is that it doesn't cause the same issues as narcotic pain meds so doctors aren't as wary when you have to up your dosage. It's important to have an understanding doctor. I am worried that when I need to up my dosage again (im currently taking 300mg throughout the day) that it will eventually stop working. Im of the mind "If it aint broke, dont fix it." As Im sure all of you know and understand the pain you feel when you dont have something that is working is so bad that you are almost willing to do anything to make it stop.

Ultram will work on certain days for me , but will not even touch the pain when I am in a flare.That's why I have a bakset full of pill bottles , I have to manage every day differently.

I do take it from time to time, but most of the time it only takes just a little off the pain and really not worth taking. I've recently started taking 2 and it is doing a better job. I can see this needing more and more in the future so I don't take it unless it really gets unbareable. Otherwise I just take an alieve or nothing and try to ride it out.

My GP won't prescribe it because she says its addictive.

I just started taking Ultram about a month ago. It works on most days for me. Maybe I need a different dosage. I was also given Lyrica, but it sometimes causes a lot of nausea when I take it.

I wouldn't be able to cope with the pain if it weren't for Tramadol. I take 100 mg 3 x a day, and have been taking it for a few years now. Like many others, when I'm in a flare, that is pain from doing too much the day before, it hardly touches it, and all I can do on those days is rest. I'm considering taking Lyrica, but Tramadol works in taking the edge off pain quite well for normal fibro days. I can get sweaty after I take it and thirsty, but besides that, I don't really have any side effects. From what I have read, Tramadol works very well with fibro sufferers, but not all. It takes a while too, to get used to the drug, and some people don't give it enough time. Also, I don't think one 50 mg pill is enough in most cases, I think the people whose pain it doesn't hardly touch, need to go to 100 mg at a time. Also, I notice if I don't stay on top of it, that is taking it every 4 to 5 hours, when I do take it late, the Tramadol doesn't work as well. So in this way, it's a bit preventative for pain too. Muscle relaxers don't work for me but my Mom who has fibro, they work great. She tried the Tramadol and she said it just made her tired. It's interesting how differently drugs affect us. I highly recommend this drug, or at least trying it for people who want relief, but want to stay away from the harder meds, (narcotics). Hope this helps. LindaF

Yes, I too take Ultram. I like it since it doesn't make you sloppy. The trick is to take it the same time each day, throughout the day, otherwise you really feel it creep up on you. It works well with Soma.

I tried it. my Dr had given it to me, and it turned out to be a serious interaction with my SSRI. I found it didn't reallly cut my pain at all.

I use to take it for a long time, it worked pretty good. Then I stopped cause I thought that was the reasone why I was sweating.
Turned out I still sweat a year later.
So I tried it again (smaller does) made me sick to my stomach now.
Today, doc gave me some anti-nausea med so I will see if that helps.
I also remember it Not making me drowsey.
it made me feel a little peppy.

I think DixieRose has hit it right on the nail head. It's trial and error and that's why I have the famous basket of pill bottles near me too!

I took it for year in combo with my celebrex and I actually was living !!!!
Then when I went off celebrex the tramadol wasn't working as well and I was given Hydrocodone. This is a narcotic so I didn't want to take it. So...now Im back on Ultram and I am dealing with the side effects which are sweating, dry mouth and for me sometimes nausea. I can NOT take it after two in the afternoon because it won't let me sleep (stay asleep). Taking more tha 50 mg at a time will increase nausea.

I have taken Ultram/tramadol for years. I have no problems with hangover from the pill; more fuzziness from the amitryptiline than the ultram. I don't think Ultram is "addictive". I take it during the day when I'm in BIG pain and every night.

I take 100 mg. 3 x a day, plus 75 mg. Lyrica at night, 50 mg. a.m., Cymbalta 60 mg. per day, Ritalin 10 mg. 3 x per day, and then the new Provigil 2 X a day. I know it sounds like a lot, but I am now able to work every day. Oh, and Trazadone 150 mg. at bedtime.I am not sleepy, or loopy. Taking the drugs is much better than disability. Take Hydrocodone with flares, use Lidocaine patches sometimes, jacuzzi, heating pads, and Aleve during worst flares along with everything else. Husband is wonderful.I work when I can, and rest all that I can, and keep pushing until we find the cure. Neurologists often know lots about treating this stuff. It took years to find the right doses and docs but I am much better than. Love, Jackie

I use ultram and it's one of the only pain meds that I can tolerate. I haven't been able to tolerate any antidepressants, but told and feel that ultram also has some antidepressant qualities. Only problem is I seem to have built up a tolerance and need more to get the same relief. I also take valium in the evening as a muscle relaxer and to help me sleep. The ultram is also nice because it doesn't make me sleepy so I can use it during the day for work. But, like many have said everyone is different. So you'll have to try and see how you react.
