I would call back at least once a week and ask if there are any cancellations. And then you might ask them, that if it were one of thier family members needed an appointment who would they send them to, since this dr is booked until June? Press them for an answer to the referral question.

No, I'm with you, if you call in March and they can't see you until June something is wrong with this picture, you need the therpy now so why would they think they can wait so long, this is so out of my perpective.
As for your Dr's call back, I would think that the nurse would call you back within 30 minutes, I have never had a problem like that before, I think I would look for another Dr. and physical therapist asap.......Love......Helen

drs routinely return calls at the end of the day. His/her nurse may return calls any time of day depending on the urgency of the call. In most cases it is the nurse you will be talking to. And the reason there are few people in the waiting area is because most drs have 2 exam rooms and they bring people back and have the nurse situate them as soon as possible. Now, if the pt office you are trying to get into is that booked up, you need to find another. If you live in a rural or underserved area, they are not denying you an earlier appt because they are inefficient or dont care - they are probably trying to do the best they can.

Yikes! June?? Can you possibly get PT elsewhere? Maybe at a different clinic? That just sounds bazaar! I would try and see if your health care covers else where.
For a return call, i would give it 3 days. If they don't call by then, then call them.

My docs office sometimes calls me back but usually doesnt. They are getting money from other patients, they could care less what you are going through.
If they are too busy getting money from other pts, I would fire their behinds and get someone who actually gives a damn. You are hiring them for a service and like any other job, if they cant handle it, its time to be fired.

If I call my doctor and ask to speak with her - she will call me back herself but sometimes it can be a while because she does more than the practice I see her at - she also works at the hospital. If she knows she can't get back to me right away and she knows why I'm calling she'll have a nurse call me - usually within a couple hours but definitely the same day.

As far as the PT I assume you are not talking about your dr's office but somewhere else? If a place makes you wait 3 months for an appointment they must be understaffed and overbooked. I live in a big city so I have lots of alternatives. If one place can't see me right away, I'd look for another place.

Whatever the response time is from the doc's office, they should give you an estimate of how long it will take to get back to you. No matter how busy they are someone should let you know they haven't forgotten you - that's just being kind.

I had that problem too. I finally realized how poorly the office was run. I know that the bad attitudes, bad service and carelessness always comes down from the top. I changed doctors and found out what a good doctor's office can be like.

I don't ever leave it up to the doctors offices to call me. If I haven't heard from them in a reasonable amount of time, I call back. And I like my docs office. But they get busy or just flat forget sometimes. And as far as the patients, its rare to go into my docs office and find it empty. Usually standing room only.

Having worked for the biggest hospital in our area, I can tell you that for PT, appts that far in advance are not that unusual. Post-op patients get first shot at the appts as it is necessary for a lot of surgeries to have that immediate PT. So those coming in for treament of chronic problems kind of get shuffle to the end of the list.
