I do exercises for the teardrop muscle (for runner's knee, is the type of injury) and that seems to help a little, but honestly, the only thing I find that helps is to keep a beanie-baby type stuffed toy handy so that those two spots don't hit each other. Only something soft! I have tried every rub, cream, etc., but ANY pressure still gets me there....

I just think treating the underlying problem, rather than the pain, works better. And of course it doesn't cure anything. It's just an ongoing strategy that works for me.
Heat I here loosens it a bit before hand. I've tried and cant seem to do it.
I have heard that the injections work well,maybe i'll try that.
