I think it does have weight gain as a possible side effect. I've taken it off and on for a few years. The last time, I thought it did cause me to gain weight.

I've been taking trazodone for years for sleep. Sleeping pills scare me, & this is non addictive, ( unlike some of my meds!) It works so well for me, but I don't know if it caused weight gain or not. It may have & I didn't notice. But I am an average weight now but have always gone up & down. I think because I'm a junk food junkie!

I have been on it for year and I never gained a pound. I am only 103 lbs. and can't gain anymore. I have several friends on higher doses then I am and they have never complained of weight gain and they too have been on it for years.

Yes, it causes me to retain water, as if I'm pre-menstrual all month long. I take it for insomnia, and I gained 4 pounds of water weight when taking 50 mg/day, and just to test to see if the water retention was the trazodone, I reduced it to 25 mg/day for 4 days, and I lost a pound/day. My breasts stopped hurting by the 3rd day.

Also, when I took it at a much higher dosage (100-200 mg), it caused my breasts to enlarge one cup size, and I looked like I had just given birth and was ready to lactate. My breasts hurt so badly that it was intolerable at that dosage.

I absolutely hate trazadone! I had gastric bypassing 2002, lost 120 lbs and in 2009 my doctor put me on it to sleep. I was on 500 mgs, walked around like a zombie and gained over 75 pounds in the 8 months I was on it. My dad was on it as well and he gained 50+. I also had palpitations and trouble swallowing. I have to say I'm not a fan.
