Tonsillitis

Caleb has now had tonsillitis 3 times since this whole FMS thing started. He'd never had it before. Is this common? I tried a google search to no avail. Thanks.

I can't imagine that it has any relation to Fibro except at times our immune systems do seem suppressed where we can't seem to get rid of infections/viruses/colds or keep catching them.

I feel for Caleb. Are they suggesting that they have his tonsils removed?

My oldest was 4yrs old when they decided to put tubes in his ears after spending an entire winter with ear infections even though the 'season' was over for ear infections and he shouldn't have been getting them at his age.

I hope he can feel better soon! Poor guy!

As far as I have been able to figure out, and I am no professional, the tonsils get infected while helping the body to fight other infections. A lot of people I know have no tonsils and when they get flu it almost always goes to their chest, whereas those with tonsils are able to fight it off better. Just an observation... So as Wonderbaby says, his immune system is down and therefore he is an easy target. Possibly an immune boosting suppliment like ecchinacea and vitamin C(with zinc)?

I'm so sorry that Caleb has tonsillitis. I still have my tonsils and when infected, it is as painful as strep! I've never known this to be related to fibro, except as others mentioned (and my dr) fibro may weaken one's immune system.
I hope that Caleb gets to feeling better really quickly!

Strep can be very harmful to children or adults. What did his pediatrician say about getting them removed?

Poor little guy has to feel terrible.

My ex is a doc (radiologist) so I didn't even take Caleb to the doc this time. He looked in his throat and said it was tonsillitis. The last two times it was viral so they didn't do anything about it. Unless he runs a fever or gets worse, we'll tough it out again. After only three times I wouldn't even consider taking out his tonsils. And as a weird aside, no one in my immediate family nor my parents has never had strep. They should probably study us or something. :)

Strep is one of the most common causes for tonsillitis - given the permanent damage it can do, I'd be afraid to not have him tested. It's a quick swab and a quick answer.
