I'm so sorry that the procedure is causing you so much pain still. I never had experience with a tissue graft.
I know that the last few years, since my symptoms got out of hand and became unbearable to where I sought treatment, my teeth have been awful. I went from a mouth full of relatively healthy teeth, to a third of my teeth gone. I do have a gum disease, which seems to run in my family, but my teeth basically crumble in weeks. They go from healthy, to literarly crumbling up in weeks. I've had gum pain from fibro for as long as I remember, also burning tonge and sore throat, lots of sores in my mouth.
Last time, back in August or September, when one of my teeth went from good to gone in a few weeks, I couldn't believe how painful the injections felt to me. Also, I could not feel my mouth being numb after the injections, I was very afraid that the extraction was gonna hurt. Actually, It did, at one point I felt horrible pain when she was taking the tooth out. I never had trouble with pain during dental procedures, used to have multiple root canals at once. Four extractions at once and it was not as bad as last time.
I definately believe that fibro affects our teeth, gums, and how we react and recover from dental procedures. (any kind of surgeries for that matter)
The only suggestion I have is to contact your dentist and see what he says. also, rinse in salt water or peroxide, that helps me with sore mouth, at least it used to help.
how about sucking on ice cubes to numb out the injection site?
Sorry, I don't have a better answer. Again, glad you found this group and hope to get to know you better.
Hope your mouth feels better very soon.
I'm now convinced that dentists and fibro do not mix. Or fibro and anything for that matter! Thanks for your support. It's nice to meet you.
I had a gum graft about five years ago, and it was the worst thing I've ever gone through. I should have gotten a clue when the dental surgeon gave me 30 10mg Vicodin with a REFILL.
It took me a couple of weeks to get past the pain - the worst spot for me was the place in the roof of my mouth where they took the graft from. It was like the world's worst pizza burn for at least two weeks.
I don't know who wrote what you read, but they obviously never HAD a gum graft.
My only suggestion is pain meds and time - and trying to relax just from knowing it's more or less "normal" for the procedure you had.
I am so sorry you are experiencing this pain. I hope you start feeling better soon.
Kim
I truthfully have never even heard of a gum tissue graft but sounds like such a miserable experience. Try to hang in there, though I know that's far easier said then done. You will find lots of support on this site. Thinking of you :)
