a temporary solution is to either purchase a tube of Benzocaine (20%) gel or liquid Benzocaine (20%). With the gel I squeeze a little bit out of the tube into my mouth and with saliva buildup up swish it around for about 10 minutes. The liquid is easier to apply directly across your gums and then let it sit a bit then swish away.
You are not alone. I believe I asked the same question as you maybe a year or so ago with basically nobody responding.
I've had this problem on and off for at least 35 years. With me it hurts the most in the evening when I'm just relaxing and watching tv or something.
Madeline--I don't grind teeth but husband does say I snore... He has to have a sleep apnea machine..Maybe I should use it lol.... I use a Buckwheat pillow.
I take 50 mg of Sinequan daily for depression. sleep and pain. It does not always work though. I can double it but hate doing that..
Sprawling--I will see if I can find the Benzocaine.. As soon as i get up it starts to bother me.. been drinking thru a straw to avoid contact on those top teeth,,,Pro Rapid or pro enamel seems to help but hurts when first put it on.
Last night had an ear ache on the left side.. same side as other pain..I used heat and oil in ear and that seems ok now..
The dentist said she has other patients with fibro and teeth pain.. which she was allowed to give names....
Have a good day.. I am off to exercise class.. get mind off things.
Other than that, my pain is nerve pain through my jaw area, called trigeminal neuralgia.
I hope you can find something to help you. Jaw/teeth pain equals major headache for me.
I get teeth pain, too. And my teeth are very sensitive to temperatures. Also sensitive to crunchy or hard things.
I do tend to clench and have TMJ but I'm not sure it is related. The jaw pain from TMJ and teeth pain don't exactly feel the same but who knows.
There are times my ribs on one side feel as if they are all broken. Or as if my jaw is broke.
Try massaging, you can look up where to massage. Myofacical pain syndrome and that group may also help
The pain is more gum line stuff rather then the actual jaw...
My hubby calls me Miss Negative paints when I am in a bad mood and will sometimes ask if I have my happy pants on .. so that is the reason of my user name...
My neck and shoulder are bugging me today.. got a Deep heat medicated patch on that right now.. You could smell me a mile away
Teeth pain hurts more along the gum line and feels different than TMJ. I know it's rare for men to get TMJ and I have experienced it. Another product that works is called, PerioRub. You can usually find a good deal on Ebay for this stuff. I usually use the 2 of them together.
That was 10 days ago and has not done a thing!.
I saw Dentist again yesterday.. she was doing a replacement filling on the other side of mouth.. the side that does not bother me...She assured me again that Xrays did not show anything on the other side..She did say she could send me to Orthodontist. I said I would give it another couple of weeks unless it gets worse then I can call and get the app..
Right now it only bothers me right after I eat.. or something cold.. The time it bugs me the most is outside for my walk or whatever.. Cold air really bothers it..
I found a Sensodyne rinse and also Colgate Peroxyl rinse..
With it coming and going I guess it can't be an infection..but sure is annoying...
Thanks for the tip with Ibuprofen.. makes sense as they used to say could grind an aspirin and put on a sore gum...
It's $20 a tube, but the tubes are quite large and it doesn't take much, so it lasts a long time.
Ask your dentist if that might be an option for you.
I myself have teeth sensitivity because I clench and grind my teeth at night. I wear a small appliance over my top teeth and when I wear it my teeth don't ache all day. When I don't wear it , my teeth are also more sensitive to heat and cold. Many people are unaware that they actually have this night time habit - some people unknowingly clench during the day. Just because your husband doesn't hear you, doestn't mean you don't do it.
I you have recession of your gums and some enamel wear, there is a good chance you are grinding. Feel free to ask more questions.
Oh, the appliances are not cumbersome and are comfortable. Also, they can be referred to by different names - night guard, occlusal guard, grinding or bruxing appliance.
Dentistry is one thing I actually know, so ask away. Wish I knew as much about fibro and chronic fatigues.
Good luck and keep me posted, maybe I'll learn something. :)
