You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I kind of understand why people don't understand our pain though. I keep thinking back on my brother having a gout attack many years ago. We were suppose to go to a Twins game and he was laying there saying that he just can't make it because of the pain. I could see his toe, which was a little swollen and of course being the good brother that I was made comments about him having just a little "toe" pain. Suck it up! Be a man! Well, about 10 years later I got gout...and it gets so painful that a breeze across your toe makes you ache! I gave him crap because I didn't understand...couldn't see it so it must not be there type of thing. I was wrong.
That all being said, I'm so sore today I would guarantee that a few years ago I would not be at work right now. For good or for bad, pain is so much part of our lives now that, unless it's a flare, we blow it off and move forward. I'm babbling now..sorry. :-)
I remember that after I got fibro, I started looking at handicapped in wheelchairs as people. I looked at their faces and I smiled at them. Before, they were just people-in-wheelchairs.
Nobody notices our heroics.

Here's to the true grit club:-) *clink*
I admit that I don't have too many people anymore that don't think there is at least something to having fibro. And my family is very supportive. I do have a lady at stamping class that has RA, and she doesn't think my fibro is such a big deal. She also says that I need to push through the pain like she does. She stays busy everyday, running all over. I have no idea how she does it. I never could.
I know there are diseases much worse than mine, but I also know that we don't get the recognition that others who are sick, get.
Especially what Ida said. I don't know of any other illness either where you have to convince people (including doctors) that you are sick. It gets exhausting.
The parking stalls at the mall have special spots for handicapped, mothers of small children, heck even expectant mothers!
How about a spot for a 55 year old mother of three with severe fibromyalgia?
No, I'll pass. I will walk the extra 30 feet. Slowly.
Found the place after a while, and am feeling so much better. Thank G-d my pain dr. thought to send me. Who knew that this pain from my left knee up to my private areas, could be treated! Feeling much better now.
Being believed, I think, would go a long way towards better treatment and perhaps even a cure for FMS in the future. Right now, they throw anti-depressants at us and hope we shut up and go away. At least I can say that my rheumatologist acknowledges that there is something to FMS and she seems to care about how I am feeling. I just hope that research continues so that we can get the help we need.
