Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Also, I had a blood test for serotonin, which was rock bottom, so my allopathic doc put me on 5htp. I can't take it now because it interacts with another med I take, but the Cymbalta really helped me with depression (sadness mainly) and blocking out some of the pain signals (that is it's purpose).
I say try what you can to see how your body reacts. Everyone is different. p.s. I am actually allergic to Zoloft...so strange.
GOOD LUCK!!
I take 40 mg Prozac for PTSD.
It does diddly squat for FM. At "double" the FM dose (and when I was on only 20 as I weaned on? Stil zero.)
That said, as others have said, trial and error. I think cymbalta and lyrica and savella are the "biggies" right now-- like all things, trends come and go in medication---and some have amazing results, some have mediocre results, and some lik emyself see no change at all.
Good docs are *essential*---neuro or rheumy, I've got/had both---and never be afraid to ask "What else can we try? What else can we test?" We've had so many people come here---then find out it was something like celiac disease or thyroid-related or.... It's why my GP never stops checking my bloodwork and my neuro never stops lookgin for signs of some underlying mimic or issue.
Like I said---good docs!

For me the antidepressants caused depression.
I read once that they deprived people of rem sleep for days and they all had Fibro-like symptoms. The conclusion was Fibro could be a primary or secondary condition.
Which is why I think it's so hard to find something that helps.
