Vasoactive intestinal polypeptideEmail this page to a friendShare on facebookShare on twitterBookmark & SharePrinter-friendly versionVasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) is a substance found throughout the body. The highest levels are normally found in the nervous system and gut. VIP has many functions:
It helps control or send nerve signals
It helps relax certain muscles along the gastrointestinal tract
It increases the amount of water and electrolytes released from the pancreas and gut
It triggers the release of hormones from the pancreas, gut, and hypothalamus
It helps break down fat and glycogen
It stimulates bile flow
It blocks gastrin and gastric acid release
Interesting how the first would explain pain....
Second good old muscles and relaxing them, with added the IBS thrown in that most of us face. My favorite is that it helps with burning fat and we all know way to much how FM with some adds weight ...
Thanks Emily so much more to read got my plans for today maped out.
I have incorporated his program into my treatment regimen and it has helped me tremendously. There is a definite connection between these neurotransmitters and the fibromyalgia connection! I am able to manage my condition much better, and I have less flares, as long as I don't veer from my regimen and continue to pace myself.
