Anyone ever have an infected parotid gland? Wow it is painful. Saw the Dr today and she put me on Augmentin, pain med, told me to ice the area, suck
on lemon drops, drink extra water, and massage it. The left side of my face is so painful and the extra headaches are no fun. The pain med isn't helping. She told me if it gets worse over the weekend to go to the ER for IV antibiotics. Hope I can get some sleep and I am fearful that the Augmentin will make my stomach sick. I just spent 2 months being very ill with my stomach issues.

That sounds painful!I have never have heard on an infected parotid gland. Do you have meds that help with the pain? Sorry that you you are so sick. I hope that you get feeling better real soon. Gentle ((((HUGS))))

That sounds awful Milly. Do you take antibiotics as well for that?

Seems like a lot of our members have bad infections right now. Sugarbear has one in his toe, Ida and you both have infections. I have some sort of infection under both breasts that won't clear up even with prescription topical antibiotic.

Augmentin is an antibiotic I think.
Hope it gets better soon. maybe try eating before taking the medication to reduce stomach issues.
Swollen glands usually indicate a virus, an infected gland, OUCH that has to be painful! When my glands are swollen they hurt a lot, extra headache, severe neck aches.
Your antibiotics should help within a couple days and you can try ice packs and heating pad on the area that is hurting to try to help with the pain. Hope you heal soon.

Did they rule out the mumps? Mumps cause parotid gland swelling/infection.

Hi milily/ I've had several parotid gland flare ups/infections. The doctor used to put me on vibramycin for it but anymore, it can flare up out of nowhere. Especially if I eat something tart like Ketchup, spicy foods, etc. The entire left side of my neck/face swells. And yes, it can be uncomfortable. The doctor says to use warm compresses and suck on lemon drops. Then it goes away as quickly as it came.

I think it's another autoimmune response. I also suffer from Hypothyroidism. Good luck with your antibiotics.

Answers to questions - yes the Dr gave me Percocet - although it isn't helping much. Yes Augmentin is an antibiotic. I had the mumps when I was little and this is on one side.

gr8ful2b - I have never had anything like this before and hope I never do. I think my Dr told me to use ice because of the swelling and the pain, but what I have read about it - heat is recommended. I was using heat the 1st 2-3 days and it wasn't helping - I am going to try it again.

For me, it is very painful. I hate the lemon drops but I am using them faithfully.
