Perhaps you might give both a try?

A few years ago I got referred to a Pain Center, and the head of the practice was an anesthesiologist so they ended up being very medication oriented. I had gone there hoping to find out about alternative treatments (like acupuncture). They didn't quite know what to do w/ me cause I can't take standard pain meds.

They did however do some very targeted MRI testing that revealed a non-fibro problem in my next. (One of those examples of just assuming all the pain is fibro pain). I ended up getting steroid shots in my spine which cured my neck pain and finger neuropathy. It was a long term fix, restored sensation and mobility, issue hasn't returned.

Maybe you could pursue treatment w/ the geographically closer place first?

I've never heard of fibro specifically causing neuropathy, though tight muscles can pinch nerves which mimics neuropathy.

Please let us know what you decide. Many folks are often looking for new approaches.

I am seeing both, in addition to a rheumatologist, actually. It has been helpful. The three of them often work together with fibro patients, as there are aspects/ comorbidities they see that each is more familiar with. In my case, the pain mgmt doc actually has a functional rehab program that he is trying to get me into (actually into a state funded grant) to help me manage the fibro so I can work. He ha an 80% return to work rate so I am hopeful. The neurologist an pain mgmt have both made me feel sane and helped me understand fibro as a real

My sleep specialist is managing my pain meds now. My pain mgt. person was too inflexible, so I stopped seeing her. She was also prone to anger, and I'm allergic.

My neuopathy is being handled with Lyrica by my rheum. He's been seeing me many years, and was the one to insist on my sleep study. Life saving, that and a sleep dr. by referral, Also I was helped greatly by a psychologist, and stayed in therapy a few good years.

I've had physical therapy, and now I take Pilates once a week and try to walk daily. My rhemy is testing me for bone density as I age, and is great for when sciatica rears up. Then he gives me shots. I trust him and love him.

I think I need a neurologist for my neuropathy, and I saw one but it didn't work out. Have to try to find another. I do shake a little some days. Hard to keep up with the needs and the solutions.

Here is an article on fibro & small fiber neuropathy. My reading is that fibromyalgia IS this neuropathy.

I go to a doctor whose specialty is Physical rehabilitation, sees fibro patients and is housed in a university hispital pain management clinic. She is great.

You dont have to choose one over the other. You can try both. Every doctor is different..even dr in the same field of medicinen it just takes getting the right dr to help you. Mine happens to be an internal medicine dr.
