I do take a muscle relaxer and vicoden on an as need when the pain gets really bad.
Sending hugs and prayers that your wife finds something that works for her.

Here are some links that really helped me:
This is my favorite article on fibro as it deals with the role of brain chemistry in it:

This is the brain function questionaire that goes with the above article:

Dr. Murphree's site is treatingandbeating.com. His book Treating and Beating Fibro and CFS was very helpful.
Most fibro sufferers also have low adrenal and/or thyroid function. This is a helpful matrix of signs and symptoms of both conditions:

This link is to a site of a couple of Ph.D's who specialize in treating illness with nutrients including amino acids. Their book Heal With Amino Acids is absolutely wonderful for anyone who wants to avoid meds.

A good place to buy supplements is vitacost.com. They have a pharmaceutical grade brand called NSI that I've done very well on. They also sell most major brands at a significant discount, and their shipping is only $4.99 no matter how you order.
Hope this helps, and good luck to you and your wife!
