Pardon my frankness, but he ain't that great of a Rheumy if he think that way about Fibro!! What an a**. Seriously. You need docs that support you. Isn't part of the hippocratic oath "do no harm?" His attitude is harmful.
One of the doctors is a colleague of my current doctor, one was the doctor who treated me in the hospital when I had a seizure that was caused by one of the meds I was put on. And because the doctor in the hospital didn't believe Fibro was real and told my family that, I have zero chance of convincing my family of anything else. He has no idea of how much permanent damage he has caused me.
I would fire him in a heart beat. You Don't need that sh*t. Man that makes me mad.
Both my rheumy doc well actually he is a PA but crap he is a good PA and is part of a rheumatology team and then my Orthopedic surgeon are supportive of me and acknowledge that Fibromyalgia is a real condition. And they do not think it is a psychosomatic condition.
That is the kind of doc you need. I wouldn't accept anything less.
I wish you all the best with the neurologist and hope you get more answers and the right help you need.
WTF is wrong with this physicians. They think they are god or something. How insulting and frankly very unprofessional to even suggest that these problems are self caused or psychosomatic.
I suspect that all these physicians are MALE too.
Have there been female rheumatologists or other doctors that any of you have had and have said negative things about fibromyalgia?
just curious.
It makes me thing that these male docs have an old school mentality and possibly very chauvanistic too and think that us females are just neurotic women who are depressed and bring these things on upon ourselves and we should all be happy in the kitchen cooking for our husbands and producing babies by the dozen.
wow I am SOOOOO sorry that so many of us have had bad experiences with doctors. I have too but not so much about the fibromyalgia. I have seen a few rheumys over the years and there are just some who have a bad bedside manner. I have left doctor's office in tears before but not in a long while thankfully. I now have some nice ones on my side.
Buffy, I'm also going to ask pardon for my frankness, but there is no way in hell this is a "good rheumy" when he thinks he knows more than the AMA, Social Security Administration, and the many, many doctors and others who are seeking both cause and cure for this very real disorder.
I was just reading an article yesterday speaking about the "somatic" issues of fibromyalgia. The term "somatic" means "of the body" and a lot of people confuse it with "psychosomatic," which means your mind is making your body sick. Sounds like your doc doesn't know the difference either.
Doctor are people, and they have prejudices just as we all do. It's kind of like religion - I don't care what you believe, as long as you don't insist that I believe it to. I don't care what he holds in his little pea brain, but when he brings his prejudice into his medical practice, that makes him a bad doc.
Don't continue to subject yourself to this abuse - it has caused problems for people when these things were said to family, or used against them in disability or other paperwork.. You don't know now what his stupidity is going to cause in the future - before that happens, find a truly good doc.
