I don't even know where to begin. I may curse...so beware if your eyes are easily offended.
I went to my pcp today concerning my upcoming hiatal hernia surgery. I proceeded to tell my doctor what had happened over the weekend. He looked at me like I had 2 heads. He said, "I'm looking at the radiologist's report from your chest CT, and there is nothing in there about a hiatal hernia." I'm like "what?" There is also nothing in the ER doctor's notes in my chart that he told me I had a hiatal hernia, pressing on my heart, along with a bunch of old food caught in my stomach, and that I would need surgery.
The idiot ER doctor apparently saw the radiologist's report and didn't want to look like a complete dumbass, so he conveiniently omitted all that he told me! I was freaking pi$$ed at this point. At least my pcp believes me. He said he has no idea why an ER doc would read a CT and give a diagnosis without the radiologist's report. I may file a complaint for all the angst this has caused me.
What I have been diagnosed with is severe GERD. My pcp said that the pain from that can be so severe, that it can feel like a heart attack. Tell me about it. I had the pain for 12 hours straight over the weekend. He said it has fooled many ER doctors. At least we know it's not my heart from the cardiac cath.
I have been but on a high power med (something like prilosec, only stonger). It should prevent this pain. I am also being sent to the GI doctor for a scope to see if I have esophogial damage.
I am grateful that I don't need surgery, but am very ticked off that this ER doc took it upon himself to say all that stuff to me, but be too much of a chickenshit to admit it in my chart. Idiot!
So, that was my appointment.

I hope the correct diagnosis and the medication will keep the problem in check. I had never heard of this condition (or not familiar with the English term, at least), but it doesn't sound fun, to say the least.

I hope the meds help make you feel better. I am still blown away by the fact that the doc thought he saw a hernia on the CT. I am glad you didn't need to wait longer to get into your PCP too. No more added stress needed.
