A bit of a doctor rant. I've been his patient since 1990 and since we worked together in the hospital. Well, he is retiring, which is good but I worry about my little dose of methadone for fibro pain that he has let me have (my suggestion as have been all of my fibro meds).
But is he demented? I had to tell him that arthritis is defective cartilege and he kept insisting: arthritis is something about the bones. Huh, doctor?
Anyway, I guess I've been my own doc for years now, he just signed off on it.
I wonder how many docs I'll have to shop and do my PR presentation about how responsible and low-maintenance I am (as of now, but who knows, right?).

My cat is going on trial for crimes against skink-anity. SIX in six weeks. Three this last week alone.The crack is maybe 1/4 inche wide. Maybe. Specifically, osteoarthritis is, to quote Mayo Clinic, "Osteoarthritis causes cartilage — the hard, slippery tissue that covers the ends of bones where they form a joint — to break down." Soooo.... yeah. Feel ya there.

I asked for a refill of methadone even though I didn't need it. And a more accurate diagnosis list (myalgia unspecified? not really, 3 rheums said I had fibro).
My plan is to get the list of docs taking new patients and amble down to the hospital's med/surg ward and ask a nurse or five who the smartest and nicest doc is and go from there. I want someone experienced, about 45-55 age range would be ideal.
If someone is going to tell me to wean off low dose methadone, we are going to have a chat about critical thinking and rational deductions concerning the 50% relief of pain that I get from my drug combo.

Errgh. have to try to look at this as a positive thing. I need a doc who isn't in the throes of dementia.
The problem with fibro is that too few primary care docs know much about it. So, when you start in on the litany of complaints, you're a female-hypochondriac.
It's only anxiety, I guess. Probably will turn out better than I fear. Glass half full approach.
