So running a marathon has been a very long time goal of mine, which has been put on hold several times in the past few years due to illness/injury. Now after 8 months of training (most people take 4-5 months) I'm finally running one tomorrow! Most of you probably think I'm crazy, and you're probably right. But if I can finish this race it's going to feel like such a huge accomplishment, especially when dealing with Fibro. Most of the people I've told about this either don't know I have Fibro or don't really get it, although they're all excited for me :) I'm not posting this to brag or anything, and I'm sure by Sunday morning I'll be in a lot of pain but here's hoping it's worth it!

A little crazy? Maybe. I am 100% behind you. You may end up in pain, but what an accomplishment you can carry around with you. Brag away.

I congratulate you on so many levels; for having a big goal, for staying with the training and being a role modal for other fibros. We can't all run, but we can plan and set goals. Let us know how it goes. Remember, you have already won before you even start, no matter how far you go!

YOu're certifiably insane, but in a good way. Go Go Go! Just finishing? Huge for *anyone*! Finishing with fibro? Oh hail yeah! Rooting you on!

You will feel the pain and the burn I'm sure, but what an accomplishment! Congrats! Keep us posted and rest rest rest on Sunday. You should be proud. Fibro is so challenging and to be running a marathon is a great achievement.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Overall I have to say things went well. I definitely made a few mistakes, went out too fast and ended up with electrolyte imbalance about halfway through the race, but luckily the race was in Maine and someone left a bowl of salted potatoes on the course for people to help themselves to. I will totally admit I laughed the first time I ran by it (the course was several "laps" around an island so I passed it like 6 times), but ended up eating a giant handful when my muscles were twitching uncontrollably, and I've decided that person is a genius because the sodium and potassium were exactly what my muscles needed to contract. It also turned out the course was very hilly so it was a huge challenge beyond just the 26.2 mile distance, but I'm incredibly determined (and stubborn) so I finished! I am insanely sore today obviously, but by some miracle the fibro didn't flare up. I just can't walk normally, or get up from sitting down without feeling like I'm 90. Another thing that made me feel pretty good was that my parents (who went with me) told me when we stopped for dinner that out of maybe 120-150 people who ran the race, a bunch dropped out and they estimated only like 25 people finished before I did. By the time I finished there weren't a ton of people still running but I figured they had already finished because I wasn't exactly a speed demon. So I'm very happy with how things went yesterday, definitely taking it easy today and taking a nap in a little bit (I was awake for 22 hours yesterday, can't sleep in cars, and the cats were hungry at 6 this morning. To be fair that's their normal feeding time but 4 hours sleep was not enough).
