As to the OP, and for thsoe who migh tnot know: CBD is derived from hemp/marijuana, but focuses on distilling things other than THC (the "high" chemical, as one doctor I know will joke). The oil is derived from stem and seeds, in short, the part that marijuana smokers don't want in their joint.
I say that to let other readers know this: CBD is trendy. Does it help? Rigorous science is yet to be done. Lots of potential out of preclinical and non-human trials and studies, but... Other than the fact you can't get "high", and it still affects your neurochmistry? The main studies of interest are focusing on neuropathic pain from spinal cord injury, treatment of addiction to opiates, and (ironically) attenuating cognitive deficit from use of THC. We've got nothing solid yet, even in the anti-epileptic front. While CBD oil is legal to use on a couple forms of pediatric epilepsy, it's not yet proven to be anti-epileptic as broadly as proponents want us all to believe. I'm not anti-MMJ, btw, just pro-science.
Kratom is popular in SE Asia as a substitute for opium. I'd leave it there but will add that at low doses it makes you feel zippy and at high doses makes you a big old pile of lethargy. It's not yet illegal, but it's not necessarily *safe*. It's being studied (a little) in the US to help opiate addicts not suffer withdrawal. That said, you can and will develop tolerance and need more to get the same effect.... And while it has potential as a non-opiate painkiller, it's currently not regulated. So you may get kratom on the label, and crap in the capsule.
Kratom has potential---it can help pain and depression they *think* --- but it's not been researched in humans in this country enough to be sure. In Thailand, people die of ODs of it (it grows there native) and the US has reported cases where peolpe ended up spending up to $15K a year to feel the effects of kratom, then had seizures and ended up in the ER. (Good news is, you can seemingly quit kratom cold turkey and no serious effects.) Also depends (as with hemp) on the species, the quality, the refinement, the method of delivery.
Basically, both options fall under "legal self-treatment", but so does alcohol, or nicotine, and those aren't great for you.
Reality? I've never tried either, and am not about to. Until there's decent research on long-term use effects, interactions, etc., on more than *mice*? No.
Lecture over. Luck and healing to all. But please, be aware that you have risks with these same as with prescription and/or street drugs, only less well-studied, and less known to ER personnel.
Leo, thanks for the info.
Weeble, it's nice to see you again... and glad to hear that you are getting better. I was wondering about you after reading what happened. I'm glad you are here and improving.
