Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Part of me still gets pre-emptively annoyed and defensive with advice about minding the "biopsychosocial" aspect of fibro. Mostly because plenty of doctors shove fibro off as "just depression" for a long time when you come in with pain problems but no test results showing anything. The psychological aspect always matters, but I'm hesitant about iffy doctors putting a lot of onus on the patient, saying it's their mindset that's not up to snuff in the efficacy of their treatment.
Something I 1000% (yes, a thousand percent, not a hundred percent) agree with is that the "patient uniformity myth" gets in the way of proper fibromyalgia treatment. There is no overwhelming uniformity in fibromyalgia symptoms, so why would one approach work for a million varying iterations?
Doctors seem to struggle immensely with the notion that they can't look up a symptom chart for fibro and start treating. Actually having to listen, and communicate, and understand the individual symptoms of a fibro patient trips up many doctors. It especially high-lights the incompetent and lazy ones that just want to do easy dx and shove you out the door with a treatment they chose.
It did make me chuckle that the article started by defining fibro as something that defies exact definition. Oh, the irony.
