My Damn doctor had to leave the system in March. Inter Mountain Health Care (IHC) is one of the largest in Utah. Tried a doctor in May and now a different one today. It seems like the clinic will no longer be treating pain patients which translates into no more pain meds such as Tramadol, Gabapentin or anything that is a controlled substance, even schedule 4 or 5 meds.
I've going to this clinic since 2011, another before that for several years. I'm not working, no insurance. I was getting financial assistance through each individual clinic, $25 co-pay.
Looks like life is going to get more miserable than it was before. Constant flares won't let up. I guess now I'll be detoxing with whatever meds I have left.
At what point do we just give up and check out? The abusers have one the game. All my visits are documented, dealt with only one pharmacy, never went doctor shopping and I'm now in the penalty box.
Now I have to doctor shop, ask about if they treat pain patients with fibro before I even see the doctor. This will make me appear as a drug seeker.
Any suggestions? The only thing I can come up with is getting the last five years of records and putting it on a disk so maybe someone will review my situation before waisting my time with an office visit.
How do any of you screen doctors beforehand without sounding like a med seeker?

I would approach it by telling the next doctor you see that your current doctor left and you are looking for someone to continue the same treatment plan.
Having a copy of your records is a must!

The nurse warned me beforehand while in the exam room that the new doc will not prescribe any pain meds. I've been a patient at that particular clinic for 2 years. They seem to slowly replacing doctors with ones fresh out of med school.
The nurse gave the doc my list of 4 meds and he said NO. They gave me my money back. Doctor wouldn't even see me. IHC is awful. Getting pain control is and will be getting harder and harder.

I'm not sure I have the strength to go doctor searching. I've weened off of pain meds before and the pain just ends up staying elevated. Weening off sleep meds will be a challenge. Less sleep, more pain. It's an endless cycle.
This will give me some time to see what happens with Affordable Health Care Act. Last I heard the feds will be running the exchanges here in Utah. Still up in the air if Utah will accept federal money to expand Medicaid. Sign up is supposed to be in October, yet nobody seems to know whats going on. I figured a big provider like IHC would have a clue, but they don't.
