I am new to this support group. I started going into peri-menopause 3/31/08. I have been having a bad problem with that. On 7/16/08 I woke up with a bad stomach ache and was throwing up. The next day I started to have bad chest pain and a lot of discomfort with breathing. After going to the doctor he came to the conclusion I have costiochondritis. I was told it is a form of fibro. Is there anyone out there that can give me information on how long this discomfort lasts? Please let me know what else I can do it is wearing me down. I never had such discomfort like this before.Also, if someone can tell me anything about costiochondritis, I would appreciate it so much. Thanks for your time. I tried to make it short.

Welcome to the group.
I know it's referred to as Chest Wall Pain also...and I definitely understand the discomfort!!! I'm sorry you suffer from it too.

Are you taking anything for it? Sometimes...Tylenol will help me for a while. That and just simple rest.

I wish I knew what brings it on so I could try to avoid it.

The thing I have noticed witht he costochondritis is that it comes and goes....I wish had more to help you when I went in and they diagnosed me with it they gave me 800mg motrin I believe...It has been a long time ago since the diagnosis..however they said use meds to help the swelling..

I have had it a few times. The first three times I went to ER thinking it was my heart.
Finally the third time the ER doctor touched me on both sides of my breastbone and it was tender, He said coschondritis. Fibro caused it. I asked my rheumy and he confirmed it.

Its tough my ribs get so tender and it feels like something is wrong with your heart. They gave me predisone and tramadol and told em to only use them if I feel like I have to go to ER. If they dont help, go to ER. I have taken the predisone a few times and it helped, It has terrible side effects so I only take it when I feel like I have to go to ER.

I think just getting really warm with alot of covers on you or heating pads does the trick, at least it does for me. In time it goes away just have to wait it out.

Do a Google search on costochondritis. There's a lot written about it. I found a really good site about it, and now I've forgotten where it was. DANG!!! I have it too.

Yes, it's horrid. I remember when I first started having problems with it, my Spanish doctor misunderstood and thought I said I was having heart pains. Next thing I knew I was straped up to a heart rate monitor.

It was not my heart, but the tissue behind my breast in the chest wall. When it bites it bites big!

It does come and go.
