I have medicade
and they would not pay for this patch that you are talking about. Any ideas? as it is non-narcotic and I would really like to try them. and to answer your question, I have has fetenal patches and they do stay on even thru shower. I also have had them come off, but I was always able to kind of strech them ou and put them back on

I called my Pharm. person and he has never heard of the pateh you are talkinf about, so please be carefull, he isn't God but has been a pharm for about 40 yrs

Hi Hun,

My mom used to use Fentanyl patch. And she would occasionally (during hot and sticky humid days) have to use a tape over it to help it stick.

They also make a special adhesive remover...most hospitals have it. And I think if you talked with a pharmacist they would know. I got a handful of packets handed to me after my C-section.

My suggestion is to put it in a place where you can always reach and check on it.

ya i had to use tape too i use the large wide clear packing tape & put it were no-one see's it! make sure you change the area 3--7 days cause you can get infection for no air to skin! i put mine under my bra on side & it helpt to keep everything in place!
i had when someone sees hem first thing they say is or your stop smoking= then ya have to replace no pain then they ask all kinds of ??? are you a drug addict now?! oh i hate it! STUPID PEOPLE!

ps best place tho is arm below elbow i tape it all the way around!= i'm a gardener so always taking a quick shower o get dirt off so i just tape it before it comes off! lol & i wear 3/4 sleeves most of the time & hand braces so its covered! Too!

It's been approved in the US but I've never heard of it. Perhaps the drug salesmen aren't pushing that one so much so doctors haven't heard of it - since it's the drug companies that are educating our doctors. (tiny soapbox...)

The Wikipedia article you linked to says it's for chronic pain. Buprenorphine is a synthetic opiate. If it falls off, just put it back on?

I looked it up online and read some blogs. Many who use it get some skin irritation but the relief outweighs the minor irritation, so rotating the patch is desirable. One guy said to be sure and rinse it well when you shower so that there's no residual soap that will severely irritate your skin. He also said to put it on an area that's seen some sun. Sun exposed skin is tougher.

The Norspan patch was added as a two week trial while I get over the flu type thing I had last week. My usual pain meds were not cutting it (Hence the meH! post from yesterday). The Doc said he had seen many more patients with severe pain symptoms of flu this year than other years and I couldn't move without ouching! So we're giving it a try. I must say though... its been on for about 9 hours... absolutely no difference in pain levels from last night. The doctor did warn me it could take from 24-72 hours to take effect though. I will update this thread if I see some promise in it.

For any aussies out there, this patch is on the pbs! so being that I have gone over my safety net for the year... its free!

Thanks for mentioning this-didn't know there was another patch for pain(widespread)other than fentanyl. Also thanks Unduki for the additional info-I currently use fentanyl and its good to know that there's another option. I have found that medical tape works very well in keeping the patch in place. Hi, I have been using Norspan 5mg for 1 year now as of today i have gone up to 10mg. I put it on the inside of my arms also on lower stomac on my C section scar as i find on my back and chest bug me. I was put on it due to a back injury now i have put it up due to fibromyalgia. When you first use it you may feel dizzy it does go away. In a weeks time when i am use to 10mg i will start taking lyrica.

From what i have read Norspan is only really used in Australia, but i am sure other countries will have something similar
