I just don't like it that a doctor/clinic would only do one type of treatment and let the patient suffer if that treatment is not effective or even in between treatments. I get injections, fibro meds, pain meds, pt, I had massage, gonna try accupuncture when funds allow.
I'm sure you have, too. However, we all know that fibro causes different types of pain, also, many of us have other pain issues on top of fibro, so it only makes sense that doctors use different treatments.
The more out of hand the pain gets, the harder it is to get any relief. My doc, prefers to stay ahead of pain than chasing it. I know that the last few weeks due to other issues, I have not been taking my pain meds and my fibro meds as I should and I sure can feel it and see it in the way I move.
I hope the injections on Thursday help a lot, and that maybe they will finally see that you need pain meds to at least take as needed so the pain doesn't get out of hand and send you to the ER.
Take care and good luck.
I tried our local pain clinic. I was so turned off by them. They recommended spinal epidural for me. This of course was on a Friday. I had a horrible spinal migraine due to tapping into my spinal column (which I tend to get even after my pregnancy epidurals too).
So there I was in severe pain. I couldn't function. Then I had 3 days of slight improvement. When I finally got back into discuss this with them, they pressured me to do another spinal epidural. They sugar coated it by saying this time they would provide me with pain meds for the spinal migraine.
I wasn't going to do it.
They were also pressuring me into getting Pool PT. Being open only during regular business hours (aka bank hours) I struggled to re-arrange my hubby's work schedule to get in there. Only to suffer each time with the pool being too warm. I was getting sick to my stomach each time.
So I found another PT place that was open later hours and on the weekends. I continued with going there, but the pain clinic staff didn't seem to like that.
My experience was a difficult one to say the least. It's what prompted me to just toss in the towel when it comes to discussing my fibro with any doctors. I let them know I have it and that's just about it. I've adapted the "Don't Ask Don't Tell'' policy when it comes to my Fibro.
In my opinion, what these pain doctors need to understand is that Pain happens 24/7. And yes, we as patients need to work with them as a team to navigate away from that. But what ticks me off the most about them is that Pain is not an emergency to them. (yes those words were shared with me when I signed on with the clinic).
Pain is not an emergency.
It's pretty clear to me what they are in business for then.
