Hi, y'all. I need advice. I haven't been online much because I've been flaring lately.
I've been getting a lot of relief from gabapentin (Neurontin) but I've noticed that my chronic face rash has gotten so much worse since I started taking gabapentin regularly and in stronger doses.
But please answer: have any of you had ACNE or an itchy infected-looking FACE RASH from taking this medication? I looked up the listed side effects, and both acne and rash ARE listed.
Right now my face has a rash all around with bright red pussy bumps. It doesn't quite look like acne, but could be bacterial.
Doctors are clueless about this rash, even a dermatologist I went to. They've tried all the "rosacea" treatments. This isn't rosacea. They have said that at the moment, it isn't discoid lupus either.
The only thing that knocks it out is internal prednisone for 2 weeks. But I can't tolerate that, and the mess just comes back anyway, except this is the worst outbreak I've ever had.
I stopped taking the gabapentin to see empirically if the outbreak resolves.
I've only been off the gab for 2 days and I can barely move. The pain all over is awful. This morning I worked briefly and everyone asked why I'm so breathless. In other words, all my symptoms are crashing. I turned down work for tomorrow.
Sorry this is so long but PLEASE tell me your experiences if you've had this. I forgot to mention that I got an itchy disgusting face rash from Zoloft that cleared up when I stopped the Zoloft. So I"m prone to these things.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Have you been tested for Lupus? That is the only thing I know of that causes a distinctive face rash.
Hopefully someone else will add experience.
