I've had this for over 45 years, and finally learned to control it though trigger point massage. I think low magnesium levels also made my pain much, much worse than it is now that I'm taking high dose of magnesium.
Here's a link to a website showing the pain locations and related trigger points in myofascial pain. Click on the related areas to bring up the diagrams. The red Xs are the location of the trigger points with the red area being the pain location. You'll know you have a trigger point as it will be incredibly painful. You need to gently massage it as much as possible.
