I first made this discovery when I was taking your standard premarin/progesterone for menopausal symptoms. My NP kept upping the dosage, but I still suffered. Finally, she suggested that I try the patch and BAM! Finally, it was getting there. I can absorbe the hormone through my skin! I have wondered abbout this ever since. Just thought I'd toss that out here and see what others think.
It's why we have to be cautious on blood levels. Like Marsha said, we don't all necessarily absorb the same way through/from our bloodstream. For example, we "live" at different places on the range for, call it Biochemical X---- "normal" is considered 10 to 20 mcg per ml of blood. I am fine and have no symptoms at 9---I absorb it well. Smeone else may register at 25 and have deficiency symptoms.
This is interesting, b/c I wanted to post this crazy-as* idea I got while watching Cosmos of all things.... Think I will now. B/c it makes me wonder about one of *my* pet theories.
My PCP knew he wasn't equipped to handle it. He referred me to an endocrinologist who got me back on track. I never go longer than 4 months without a thyroid profile. I've never heard of "atrophied" thyroid. I hope you get this figured out. Hugs, Dianna
