Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I think that fibro can make you depressed if you can't get yourself some control over it, learn how to be grateful, be positive and get on with the life (even though it is limited). Certainly having fibro is considered to be a loss, a huge stressor and that can lead to depression unless you are actively combatting the fibro, getting some pain relief, addressing sleep issues, etc.
If you have depression and then get fibro, the fibro may seem to be worse than it would be if you weren't depressed because you are dwelling on the negative and not doing pleasurable things.
But depression is not a causal factor for fibro and fibro is not a causal factor for depression (at least at this time). Hope that clears it up a little.
I believe being in pain causes the depression. It does for me. When I am having a decent day with the pain, thanks to 7 medication (unreal I know, none are opiates) I am almost the guy who used to be the life of the party. On bad days of course anyone with this crappy disease I am meloncoly.
