I find myself more and more trying to force myself to recall mundane things and irrelevant memories just to test myself to make sure it's just the fibro fog and nothing worse! It's definitely one of the more frustrating symptoms among the many we have to deal with!
This fog is a horrible thing..I have a million lists but the problem is remembering where they are..sounds funny but...!
So I'm on a quest to get my house well organized and everything in a place..so maybe I can make my life a little easier?!
As some have mentioned, the fog can lift for a while and then sometimes it gets really thick. I have found that if I keep notes in my cell and appointments in a family shared calendar, it is easier for my family to keep up with what is hapening.
I recently started taking Provigil. Previously on Nuvigil, but that stuff is SUPER spendy. My insurance plan makes the provigil free and the Nuvigil is still almost 400.00. It does help with the exhaustion that makes it hard to think. It also helps with the bone cruching fatigue we all experience. I have also tried vitamins and excercise, but nothing seemed to work too well.
My advice, take notes, pictures even if need be. Most people are able to keep up with their cell phone. Seems silly to some, but has been a blessing for me.
I also have issues with words. I keep forgetting easy words like pillow, trashcan...ect. Its on the tip of my tongue and I cant find it. Anyone else???? I feel so helpless and STUPID. I have a bachelors degree and two masters degree and prode myself on being pretty smart. This has really made my confidence go down alot. I usually just laugh it off but it does really bother me.
The only thing I can think of else to help is start doing some brain games. There are tons of apps that are free- do a word game or a problem solving game. Also, there is this show called Brain games on Netflix. You should watch it. It talks alot about memory.
For instance, every time you put down your keys, imagine them blowing up. Usually you will remember what room that was in. Also, connecting names with something about them- a narrative. When you meet Alice (this particular alice has glasses), you can think Alice who lives in garden with her white rabbit that has glasses. If you put a narrative with it- it is easier to remember.
A few years ago at work (i teach second grade) there was a math problem on the board. 27+15. i looked at the problem and suddenly had no idea what the numbers were. I couldn't tell you what the numbers were. I knew the were numbers but i couldn't think of how to read them. I had no clue what the plus sign meant or that that mark was even had a name. I was a complete blank. I had not a clue what to do i had 30 students staring at me that i was in the middle of teaching. After a min or two i said to the kids "Oh no, what do i do?" they told me what to do saved by a hair. If my principal ever heard of this i would be in real trouble. That is just two brain fog stories out of hundreds.
Been very tired lately, more so than normal. I know this verbal issue is because of that, and I am not complaining, I am commiserating with all of you! This will pass, it's just very bad right now! Thup, thup, duhhhh.
