Drug interactions?

I just picked up an RX for Gabapentin 300mg from my new Rheumy. I asked the pharmacist if it would interact with any current meds (including Amitripyline 40 mg and Cymbalta 30 mg at night). He said I should check with the doctor - but it is Friday night of a long weekend.

I put a call (voicemail left) at my new Rheumy to ask if I should stop any existing RX before starting the Gabapentin.


Has anyone out there been on all three simultaneously? Cymblata, Amitriptyline AND Gabapentin? What was your experience?

I will wait to hear from Doctor but this forum is so helpful with real experience, not just textbook and statistics....

I'm surprised your pharmacist didn't have an answer for you. They are more in the know than the doctors are. If there had been an issue, I think something would have popped up on the computer, a type of warning.

I wouldn't think there'd be a problem, b/c gabapentin is an entirely different medicine than the other two. You might just be sleepier, but if you're starting out taking it at night, that shouldn't be too bad.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with those 3, but those are just my thoughts.

You take Cymbalta at night?! I can't sleep if I do. I mentioned it to my doc and she said to never take it after noon.

Your phamacist should of known of any interactions with your other meds. Did your Rheumy know you were on the other medications? I agree with VJMP, Google it and find out what will interact with other meds. You should of also got the information sheet that would tell you.

With that combination I would look out for serotonin syndrome. It will probably be absolutely fine but just familiarise yourself with the symptoms just in case.
