Sounds like he has strep throat if its burning and he still has a cough. I wouldn't mess around with my kids health trying to figure out if things were fibro or not.

Fibro is pain that moves around and eventually goes somewhere else. Then those tenderspoints can hurt like the dickens also. Has your son been to a childrens specialist like a rheumy that specializes or any other children's specialist?

I echo Magic. FM Is what it is. It odesn't cause flu, colds, strep, skin infections, etc. If it quacks and walks like a case of "take him to a doc", then take him to a doc, and honestly, I'd sooner "waste" the trip than not. Besides, with chronic pain, we're often worn down, and that can make us more susceptible to colds, etc., and take us a little longer to heal up.

I agree with Magic & Leo. Take your son to a doctor. Coughing and burning throat are not fibro symptoms. Please let us know how he makes out.

I just read a post where you got Caleb a kitten and was wondering if he could be allergic to the cat. I have know how long you have had the cat and when the coughing started but just an idea,

I agree with everyone else, take Caleb to the doctor. GERD can cause a chronic cough and may make his throat burn. That is one of the many "perks" of Fibromyalgia. I have GERD and a chronic cough between that and asthma. It could be strep too.

We all get how frustrating having to continually go to the doctor. I hope that you can get to the bottom of the issue and that Caleb feels better. Take care.

I don't think it's GERD, but it probably is a virus or infection. And he just had allergy tests, so it's not the cat, but thx. For the cough we've seen the allergist 4 times to no avail. Waiting on referral to pulmonologist. I just wish there was a handbook on when it's not fibro since so many things can be.

There are walk in clinics open today, they can look in his throat and even test for strep which can lead to serious complications if not treated.

If his throat is infected the sooner and antibiotic.

Just OTC med for heartburn won't fix gerd. He needs to see a gastrologist and have a endoscopy if every thing else is ruled out,

Gerd has more symptoms then heartburn, you can read up on it also

I agree that he should see a gastro specialist about possibly having GERD. I have a raging case of it that is barely controlled with 600mg of medication a day. I've changed diet and done everything possible and it just doesn't quit. Antacids just don't do it for me. GERD will cause a chronic cough. And, he could be having symptoms during sleep which would result in a burning throat. I deal with acid breakthrough from time to time but it usually wakes me up. Just long enough to take some Gaviscon (yuck) and pass out again. Something to think about if everything comes back negative. I hope he feels better soon.

He's had three endoscopies... I'm confident it's not Gerd. But thx for concern. Interestingly enough, my family is apparently immune to strep as NO ONE has ever had it. :) I'm not confidant in our urgent care, they are just PAs, his doc knows him better. We'll go tomorrow.
