For the first time in my adult life I find myself without health insurance. I lost my insurance June 15th when my divorce was finalized. Saturday I went to fill 2 prescriptions; Cymbalta and Nexium. I just about fell over when they told me my total was $612.00 for 2 Rx. I asked her if she was sure and she said yes. The Nexium was $400 and the Cymbalta was $212. How can that be???? What do other people with no insurance do to get their medicines? Is there a secret that I do not know about? How do people survive? Well, I had to choose between the 2 and decided to get the Cymbalta for 2 reasons. First and foremost I have terrible withdrawals if I'm even a few hours late taking a dose so the thought of not having it at all was not even possible. I'd end up in the hospital without it. And secondly, it was the cheaper of the 2. So...I bought the Cymbalta, knowing that I didn't have enough in my checking account. Luckily my credit union will let me spend more than I have in my account they just charge me $25 each time I over draft. So what I am supposed to do about all the other meds I take. I cant wait to see what they will end up costing me. I bought a brand new car in December and I pay less a month for it than I do for one prescription. That is so not right! So unfair. I am so overwhelmed I don't know what to do.
I work full time but it's a temp job with no benefits. I am looking very hard to find a permanent position with benefits but even with 12 years of HR exp I haven't been able to find anything. Ya see...even though I have the experience, I don't have the education most employers are looking for. SOOOO that makes it more difficult. Interviewing is difficult because of the Fibro fog. I stammer looking for the correct words and end up looking like an idiot. Even though I know my business...I love Human Resources and I feel I'm pretty good at it. But I often come across looking like a fool when I cant say the right words. I just feel like sitting down and crying!

I also have 12 years in HR and even with the education and experience it's rough. As many as 1200 people have applied for some of the same jobs I've applied for. It's crazy. I've found it's helpful to figure out the most common questions you'll be asked, write down the answers, and study them. You may not get it perfect, but you'll be a lot more "polished" if you have the answer in your head.

Lot's of people said to go direct to the pharma company as they have programs to help people who can't afford their meds. I filled out tons of forms but didn't qualify for anything. I guess they don't help the working poor.
I'm sorry for what you are going through. A divorce is always a stressful and painful time.
Please talk to your doc right away about changing out the Cymbalta to something generic. There are many options. Also ask for samples from the doctor.
