What is Costochronditis?

I wonder if you had an injury that aggravates your condition of if it just occurs due to fm.
I have had that rib pain also, but it usually doesnt last long thank God. Sounds like you are doing all the right things though to keep your pain to a dull roar.
Ibuprofin can keep the swelling down and usually this condition doesnt last that long. It is typical of an autoimmune disease which of course fm is..
So I would try the Ibu and see how that does for ya...as it is specifically designed for the inflammation. June is a super long time to wait to be seen geez!

I haven't had it but my friend did and he just did basically what you are doing (heating pad, pain meds, anti-inflamatories, and rest). He didn't have to do PT the doctor told him to just let it runs its course until the swelling goes down. Hope you feel better soon.

Yep, have it. It hurts and it makes me feel afraid. You should make sure you keep your doctor informed because it could be other things. Hugs.

Thats what my ex has costochronditis aka chest wall pain. Feels like you are having a heart attack your rib cage is so inflamed. Take predisone for a few days and heating pads that what helped her. Predisone has alot of bad side effects but she just used it for a few days until it passed.

My PCP kept calling it "Pleurisy" everytime it flared...now, I think that maybe it was "costochrondritis", espcially since it's coorelated with Fibro. Although, he did use x-rays to determine this Dx....don't know if that matters?

I forgot to mention that he gave me steroids to battle the inflammation. I do remember one thing for sure...NOTHING HELPED WITH THE PAIN!!!...COULDN'T BREATHE!! I surely hope that I NEVER get that again! I'll pray for you b/c I remember how awful it was. So Sorry you have it! :(

I feel your pain! I've had costochrondritis for several years. The first time it took me to the Emergency Room because I couldn't move and the chest pain was so. intense. Continue what you are doing, there is nothing else that has helped me overcome the pain... It just seems to run it's course.

HEr rib cage was inflamed and muscles, If you touch beside your sternum and its sore and painful thats cosochondritis. ery tender and painful along sternu, IF you have had it or know someone that had they have probably been to ER with it.

Thanks dear friends. Yes, a week ago I was in the Er for this and they haven't done one thing to help me feel better - Last week I'd get sharp pains in my back and chest and problems breathing- they were thinking I had a blood clot in the lung - thankfully no.
Now the pain has moved around a bit and is affecting my arms where I can't carry anything without pain. Can't even blow dry my hair or do a load of wash...And would you believe I've had it for 3 months - I was just to sick and tired to make an appointment - and what good did it do me -ggrrr. I HAD THE SAME THING, AND THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!! I WENT TO THE DOCTOR ON FRIDAY MORNING AND ENDED UP IN THE ER THAT NIGHT, I COULDN'T BREATH AT ALL. AND IT HURT SO BAD WHEN THE DOCTOR PUT HER HAND ON MY CHEST AND PUSHED IT FELT LIKE SHE CUT OFF MY AIR, THEN SHE SAID YOU HAVE INFLAMATION OF THE LUNGS AND CHEST WALL. IT FINALLY GOT BETTER BUT SHE SAID IT COULD COME BACK. PLEASE, TAKE CARE AND IF YOU KEEP HAVING PROBLEMS GO BACK!!! LOVE YOU, BECKY
