Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
ANd kneecap the a-holes. Wait, no. Bad. *wince*
I won't aruge the "value" of stress management or exercise, as they're key to my own well-being, but that's true of ANYONE. With or without any diagnosis! (Ditto the chiropracty, massage "results".... OMG, at least distinguish from the general population of "healthy".... The results are the same in both groups, if you bother to look at the published and vetted studies over the last, oh, twenty years!)....
Moreover "dependency and sickness behavior" is a very PC way of saying "weakling attention-seeking behavior". *eyeroll* I actually thought this was a psychologist, not a rheumy prof, when I read about that.
Big breaths, Ann. I'm ranting with you, for you, alongside you. And he's one person. Not all docs. God help the ones he teaches when they run into *me*, however:-)
He's not saying anything new.
He's not up to date. Forget his regurgitation.
The only teensy-weensy message in all this is to self-manage the illness as much as you can; try to solve some of the annoying problems, etc, etc, stuff we do ALREADY.
Cripes. Like we need this.
The irony is that the latest news in depression is that some of it is caused by the immune system.
Anyway, I've been sick since 1977. Worked, traveled all over the world (by myself), got my Master's degree, walked all over Manhattan and every place else, biked, skied, hiked, and tried to pretend to be normal as much as I possibly could. Now that I'm 63 tomorrow, I have realized that I need to educate my siblings about what is wrong with me, since three years ago I had a seizure, ended up in the hospital and had no one to speak for me. I couldn't call my siblings because they have been completely in the dark about what I have been going through.
All that exercise never helped my pain that I saw. Quite the opposite. But since I enjoyed it, I paid the price.
So being viewed as this poor creature engaged in "sickness behavior and dependency," well that just makes me completely ill.
That's why we have this board. TO tell our truth.
OK. I will breathe now.
When I was first diagnosed with fibro in the 80s it meant my muscles hurt and I had trouble sleeping, so I was alright with it. For awhile I was in remission from my autoimmune stuff, so I just told docs I had fibro not realizing it had become a mental disorder.
I'm a triple fire sign, so when I get pissed.... Fortunately, I'm not the queen and I don't believe in violence. Otherwise--off with their heads!!!!
I will now try to breathe deeply. And I thank you for your commiseration.
Hope you all manage to have a Happy Thanksgiving and a nice rest after it is over.
It seems that a lot of these people think that the more times certain things are published and repeated the more acccurate it makes them. This report was recently published but it contains info that has been published before and is a summary.
