I was turned down for SSI and then asked for an appeal. I got the paperwork in the mail that I'm suppose to fill out and return to them for the appeal but I have been so sick lately I havn't done it yet. Does anyone know how long I have before I have to turn in those papers. I hope I didn't mess up and have to do the whole thing over again. They say if you don't do the appeal in time they wont count any of the past towards your back pay either? That would be bad for me. Im homeless right now and very disabled and need a break!

Most appeals for most things are like 30 days things like my insurance are as long as 90 days. In the denial letter you got it should state how long yo have to appeal

In California it's 60 days from the date on the letter. Call a lawyer and have them handle it for you but you have to at least send them a letter. Read your decision carefully - everything you need to know is in there.

SSi is a State program, every state is different.

SSDI is federal

After I was denied and sent the paper saying so it said to appeal and I did that already in the time that I was suppose to. I'm talking about after they sent me even more papers to fill out and I havn't turned those in yet but I did get the appeal in the time allowed. I'm wondering about those additional papers they want?

The sooner you get your paperwork to them the sooner they will start to work on things. Do you have someone who can help you with the paperwork needed to get sent off ? In the letter it should tell you how soon they want the paperwork. I wish you the best with your claim and hope you can get the paperwork needed back to them in the time alloted.
