I have ranted on this board from time to time about really horrible nstipation. So I thought I'd pass this along. After not "going" for 3 weeks my doctor did an xray to rule out blockage and there wasn't any, then prescribed Amitiza. It is working better than anything I've tried (and I've tried everything).

Wow! I'm so glad your doctor found something to help you. You must have been in a panic!

thanks, Lizzy, that's why I posted it. So many people have given me suggestions for COnstipation (I can't type on this laptop keyboard!) the least I could do is pass along this experience. I would add that each person should play around with the dose, don't just blindly follow what the doctor says . Of course if you are in a crisis like I was I took it as prescribed, which was 3 times the normal dose, just to get past it. but then, after I was put on a normal dose, Ihave found that somethings if I take twice as much in one day then I can skip the next day and have better resuts. That's just experimenting to see what's right for me, and not really taking any more or less than the doctor ordered.

the amitiza is not working for me. im on amitiza (24mg. 2 times a day) and 2 scoopfulls of miralax every day and sometimes that dont even work that i have to take a senna pill which the doctor doesnt want because the use of too much senna cant paralyze your intestines.
had a gastric swallowing test and ct of abdomen and found nothing. dont know what she will do next. i have appt next week
