Greetings, and tell your aunt that if she's such a medical expert, she can go on Dr. Oz.... th rest of us know the truth. It's a recognized neuromuscular disorder characterized by widespread pain and fatigue, and if the AMA admits it, well, that's better than they did 30 years ago!

Sorry for that mini-rant, I get touchy when people tell me an illness isn't real!

As I said to someone else that just wanted to vent, that this is a wonderful group of people who are here to listen whether you have a question or just need to vent. No-one here is going to judge, just be here to help or give advice if asked and to also let you have a safe place to vent. I too am sick and tired of hearing those words that we are all diagnosed with Fibro when they can't figure out what is wrong. For one thing, she needs to understand that there are physical tests that the
doctors do. She really needs to be informed about this illness and not be judging. Welcome and take good care of YOU. Hugs GB

Welcome mistyr85. I am here to learn but also to offer support since I am still learning about fibro. I do know however that the pain is very real! My response to those who give those insensitive and judgmental remarks would be "I hope you are never faced with what I and many others are dealing with..wouldn't wish this on anyone".

Just do what you need to do to feel better and come here if you need support or to vent. Nice to meet you.

Welcome. Now will be the time to get rid of those negative voices or at least limit them. I have lost several friends due to their disbelief in the existence of FMS. :(

I'm sorry your aunt said that to you.... though I'm not surprised. People will say crazy things to you because they don't understand anything about fibromyalgia or anything you are going through for that matter.
Hang in there! The best thing you can do is educate your self about it and be your own advocate. We are here for you if you have any questions. :)

I've had fm for over 30 years and sometimes I don't believe I'm so ill. It just doesn't suit me at all. I was always active and funny, light hearted, too careless with my life!

Now I'm drugged, quieter, sadderr, and still, sick. It's hard to believe in this illness as the pain keeps changing places! The other day it was my buttocks, and today, it's gone, thank G-d! I wish it weren't true that I'm so sick and in bed so much of the day.

I am a newbie to this group too , just been diagnosed with FM
i have other issues like disc prolapse and brachial neuritis to deal with
In short am a chronic pain suffer.

IT Does hurt a lt when your near and dear ones do not empathize with you , rather pass sarcastic comments.

Give a Damn to them frankly , I know how Devastating FM can be..
I am a doc too so are few of my relatives who try to downplay my ordeal

Welcome to our group. This is a great place to vent and to learn. It hurts all of us when our loved ones just don't get it. If all of our symptoms showed on the outside then we would look like h*ll! May I suggest you get the book, Fibromyalgia for Dummies. It's an excellent source of info. There is even a chapter there for loved ones to read so they can better understand. My hubby said it helped him. Hang in there and know you are not alone.
