Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Is your not being able to drive directly related to your fibro?
And I'm glad that you are trying to accept the diagnosis. It is a terrible health problem to have, but as you can see through this site, there are so many people who are blossoming in spite of it.
I don't know if you have looked into this , but because of your age you would qualify for senior citizen transportation help.
After joining this group I didn't feel so alone with the fibro monster . I hope the same results for you. : )
Its hard around here cause we have no public transportation. I hope it gets better for you.
I had an eight-year "remission" of FM, no meds even, and it was awesome. Then life intervened. Argh. Basically, live healthy overall, and it helps your baeline health, and that's always good.... And read "Fibromyalgia for Dummies", which is a go-to book for us, since it's easy for us, our families, and even certain doctors to understand. And so forth.
I can't drive, but it's my epilepsy. Frustrating, but I notice more about life when I'm walking (which is where I'm at, despite fact I did 5Ks and hiked even five years ago).
Check-in is where we kinda hang out, check in, chat, or just lurk and see how people are doing, et cetera. Feel free to drop by there, it's been going daily for about... shoot longe rthan I've been on DS, and I joined in 2010.
Cheers,
Leo
I find driving incredibly painful - particularly for my shoulders, back, neck and wrists. I have been avoiding it but I also find the jostle of the subway to be very painful. Sometimes I can't avoid driving and something I have found that helps is to bring a huge ice pack in the car that reaches from my neck down. It doesn't solve everything but it helps a lot while it stays cold!
I hear you about the delayed acceptance! I was originally diagnosed towards the end of September by my primary care and a rheumatologist... then went to see a physiatrist and he said the same... but I still refused to accept it and actually sought out a different rheumatologist for a second opinion in January... and - well - can't escape it! So I'm finally trying to make my peace with it. I started Lyrica in the hopes that it helps... haven't had much success yet - but it's only been about 3 weeks so I have my fingers crossed.
I can drive, but I have a lot of trouble driving at night, and I avoid it at all costs. I just can't judge where the road is, or where other cars lights are coming from. It freaks me out. Also, my hands go numb when I drive. That is annoying.
