Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
As far as giving people reading material, I think you could write your own one page about your limitations and back it up with some experts' printouts.
But, I've found that certain family members care about me and get it while others don't. The ones who are empathetic get it.
The hardest thing (for me) is to admit to family members that I am so impaired by revealing how hard it is for me to drive to see them, etc.etc. I don't have the kind of close family where I feel I wouldn't be under attack. So, what I've had to do is limit my interactions with the people who aren't understanding. Since I am ultra-sensitive anyway on top of the fibro, I've just found that t's ok to let go of certain people. I still love them but I don't give them much weight.
Also, letting go of guilt (any and all) is a big help in feeling better and calmer.
And sometimes it's just hard for some people to remember (without a seeing a wheelchair or a limp) just how impaired you are.
Are you getting or have you applied for all the benefits you may be entitled to? I don't know what's available in Canada.
It always helps me to take action, to problem solve when things seem insurmontable. Even seeing a therapist more often is taking action.
Best wishes to you and an early spring.
You might check your local library and see if they have the book or can get it for you. Our taxes pay for it, so hopefully they will help.
Shakota6 what a good idea for me to write out my own page and back it up with expert print outs. I have looked at different places to print out the info. I have limited my contact with some family. I no longer speak to my dad and stepmother due to there constant rude comments about me to my kids. It got so bad and upset my kids so much they now are also refusing to visit. I have been told my pdoc and therapist as well family doc that I need to cut my own mother out of my life. She really brings me down and as she has aged and a senior has gotten really rude and says because she's a senior she can do and say what she wants even if inappropriate; pdoc was shocked on that one. I am on disability. I have been for several years due to my severe depression and anxiety. I pretty much don't function and now with fibro the last couple of years have been bad. I am looking forward to spring but not summer. The humidity really makes my fibro flare.
MAGICpill thank you for reminding me I'm not alone. Also thank you about the advice on the book, unfortunately our libraries here don't have it. I wish they did.
