Hi, new to the support group. Diagnosed acouple weeks ago with Fibro. At the same time my Dr. had results of cervical & lumber x-rays and said I had considerable amount of arthritis.
He referred me to a Rheumatologist. Do you think this is for the arthritis or the Fibro. Does Rheumatologist treat Fibro?
Any insight will be appreciated.
Thanks!

My cat is going on trial for crimes against skink-anity. SIX in six weeks. Three this last week alone. The crack is maybe 1/4 inche wide. Maybe. Skink skitters past, her paw shoots out, her claw hooks in, she yanks, and somehow, having defied physics... WHAM. Skink-o-rama.Now, don't get me wrong, it's nice that she's a pesticidal maniac, but OMG. Skinks do no harm. They don't come inside. WTF.So,...

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Everyone in the FMS DS group is apparently treated by a different kind of doctor. My primary care physician (PCP) treats mine. In fact, there is no cure for this, so treating the symptoms is the only thing that can be done at this point.
As a newly diagnosed patient, I encourage you to read through as much of the information in the archives as you can. There is a real wealth of information there. Just put the issue you are wondering about in the search engine and stand back. You'll get lots of response to your question.
Lastly, we are a seriously supportive group here. The people are really nice and really, really intelligent, sharing their research and giving lots of gentle hugs to each other. Welcome to the group and come back often. You will not get support like this from anyone else, at least I don't, so come back and visit as often as you can.
This website will definately be put in my favorites.
Thank you!
I really found "The Fibromyalgia Advocate" to be the most helpful book. It was written by a doctor who actually has the condition. Dr. Pelligrino also is a sufferer and has a book or two.
I read the dummy series book for diabetes and didn't care for it at all. It didn't even have in there what normal blood sugar should be, I guess a dummy wrote it.
There are always exceptions, and I'm sure if someone had another condition that they were treating, the rheumy might agree to treat their fibromyalgia as well.
Just to clarify, are you talking about rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis? One is fairly "simple" and the other is a more complex autoimmune disorder.
